I’m filing this under anime, but I can’t really describe what exactly this is. However it, is an homage to a number of classic sci-fi animations such as Heavy Metal and Fantastic Planet. What is produced is an awesome collaboration of contemporary music with fantastical aesthetics.

The gaming industry is an amazing one, it gets away with things that wouldn’t fly on any other industry, the kind of stuff that gave the dot com industry a bad rep. Like this fantastic Nautilus-inspired Steampunk office space that Three Rings Designs, maker of online games including one with Steampunk cowboys, commissioned.
Its pretty badass, it even has a plush attacking octopus couch and a secret lair. If you are going to work making fantasy worlds, might as well be working in one!

Browncoats should rejoice or go Reaver crazy, Fox has at last headed your words and they are reviving Firefly, somewhat.
Fox has entered in a deal with MMO platform maker, Multiverse, to create a MMO based a game based on the Firefly universe. Forgive me if I find this lukewarm in excitement. Firefly did have a very detailed universe ripe for turning into a MMO, but what made the show was the main characters, the crew.
Learn to take a hint Fox, when a series of only 11 episodes draws crowds of thousands years after its been canned. When this fandom produces continuous material, like Done the Impossible, a documentary that entered Amazon’s top 1000 DVD list. When they organize conventions that sell out. Bring the freaking show back.

Here we have a futuristic story of 3 girls that, by some really bizarre probabilities, end up together trying to return to Earth. But they encounter quite some problems on the way . . .

We’ve talked about big mechas before, specifically big Gundam mechas. Remember? I called it a ‘Big ass Gundam’, I was young and naive. This is a big ass Gundam!
The Gundam is 7 meters high, 3 meters wide and apparently took over 10 months to build. But this isn’t just the world’s geekiest paperweight, the freaking thing moves! There are several hydraulic pistons in the structure, one of them supposedly located in its crotch (can you say crotch rocket?).
And where does one control such a beast? From the cockpit, of course!

Continuing with the mecha theme, lets take a glimpse into the future, Mecha battle each other in wars with big machine guns and missiles and poodles. Sparks and blood (mainly poodle’s blood) fly everywhere! Its a nice future, but still a long way to go. In the meantime lets watch a video of this Japanese Mecha prototype, the Landwalker. Its far from what we’ll need to fight a Mecha war but you don’t get there without trying. This $300,000 prototype is a noble attempt. To the video!

James Cameron is getting serious about taking Battle Angel Alita into Hollywood, actually he’s planning a trilogy. In an interview with MTV Cameron stated that his working on two sci-fi trilogies, Battle Angel being the later. While the plan is to make a trilogy its still not set in stone, Cameron is quoted saying “Battle Angel’ is actually designed as a three-film cycle. So the logic there is to make one and, if it hits, boom-boom on the other two.”. The future of both, Movie and director are at stake here, Cameron has been in hiatus for quite a while and fans worry that his magic might be gone with the wind.
When I think of what Cameron’s rendition of Battle Angel would be like I cant stop thinking about Dark Angel. I loved that series (and I swear Jessica Alba only accounted for half of that). How awesome would it be if they had that same atmosphere? The two stories share many elements so its a very likely thing.

So the Transformers movie trailer was released today, a lot of good that fancy countdown did! This trailer is perhaps the most useless and uninformative trailer EVER! At about a minute in length we get to see exactly one shadow of one thing that appears to be a robot. And the only robot we get to see can only collect rocks, STUNNING!
The movie premiers July 4 and it better be good or we’re personally going to do a whole bunch of nothin’ about it! Oh and there’s also a videogame from the movie coming out sometime between now and the release of Duke Nukem Forever.

Trekies everywhere might start to go nuts as news that the next Star Trek film will be a prequel narrating the adventures of Captain Kirk’s youth. More unsettling than that is news that Matt Damon might play the role of the sci-fi icon.
And Abrams has Shatner’s approval. An insider says, “Shatner gave his blessing.”
Well even after having the legendary actor’s approval, the cast and script have yet to pass the harshest test: the fans.
