It Wont Die: Resident Evil: Afterlife begins Shooting

resident-evil-afterlife

This week marked the start of the shooting of the game/movie franchise that keeps coming back from the dead. Yes, I’m talking about Resident Evil: Afterlife.

After the  train wreck that was Apocalypse and their lame attempt at forcing a sequel with the ending you’d think they’d let it die and be forgotten but evidently that wasn’t the case. The movie made money and now we’re getting a 4th one.

What we know: Takes place in LA, with Alice trying to unite the few survivors in a single place. The film will be shot in 3D (hurray for 3D Milla?). Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) and Ali Larter (Heroes) have joined the cast. There are really strong rumors about Leon S. Kennedy joining the story, despite early marketing materials for previous films where it was mentioned that Leon was killed. And to top it off? Well, it appears that it will by no means be the last Resident Evil movie. Earlier this summer Paul W.S. Anderson, the producer of the series, stated that Afterlife would mark a “rebirth of the entire franchise”.

The film’s planned release is set for August 2010 and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it will suck. Will I see it? You bet. But if the previous two movies are any indication of the next, Resident Evil: Afterlife will consist of Alice getting more mental magical powers and killing everything in a thousand mile radius by blinking.

Resident Evil 5 Comes To The PC In 3D!

re-5

Today Capcom announced that Resident Evil 5, along with Street Fighter IV and Bionic Commando, will be ported to the PC. With SFIV and Bionic Commando coming out in July and RE: 5 in the fall this marks the newest step in Capcom’s attempts to bring its blockbusters to the PC.

No additional content has been announced for the PC version of RE:5 but it will sport a fancy new feature: 3D! The game will be compatible with Nvidia’s Geforce 3D Vision technology, allowing you to not only see Zombies in 3D, but Chris’ bigger-than-his-skull biceps and Sheva’s well endowed buttocks will also feel like they are coming out of your screen.

You may or may not know that Capcom actually released Resident Evil 4 for the PC as well and it was considered one of the worst PC ports ever, with basically no keyboard and mouse support basically forcing you to the same experience as the console versions. Now with this press release Capcom promises full keyboard and mouse support for all 3 games but adds that “for God’s sake, go buy a gamepad with analog sticks.”

To this humble editor this seems like Capcom is missing a big part of the point of releasing games for the PC, mainly that PC gamers are not that fond of controllers. So with this kind of attitude towards the PC its still to be seen what they actually mean when they say “full” keyboard and mouse support. But hey! At least there’s the promise of 3D ass, cant ague with that!

Resident Evil Degeneration Review

sss.jpg

Back in November we posted the first scene of this full-length CG animation. While previous Resident Evil films have drawn upon elements of the series, Degeneration is set in the game universe, centering around Leon Scott Kennedy and Claire Redfield doing what they do best, uncovering secrets and killing zombies.

The Umbrella Umbrella Is Corporate Corporate

umbrella_corporation_umbrella

If I were not stuck in the middle of a godless desert city, where it only rains twice a year, I’d buy this umbrella. Its elegant, it means business, its… its corporate. And its for sale for only about $15 USD on Think Geek! Hell I’d consider paying a guy following me around with a hose just so I could stand under my umbrella… looking ominous.

The First Scene – Resident Evil: Degeneration

IGN has got a hold of the first scene of the Resident Evil: Degeneration movie. Embedded right above for your viewing pleasure. I’ve got to say they are pretty well done and the story seems to be much more fulfilling than any of the actual Resident Evil movies ever were. I’m definitely looking forward to it now, how about you?

Resident evil 1 for Wii?!

Resident evil REmake - Wii edition scanCapcom seem to be going port crazy at the moment! They recently revealed that the GameCube REmake of the original Resident evil game will release in Wii edition form. The game will of course be Wii remote compatible (but still support GameCube controls) and that’s about it! The Wii edition may feature a new costume for Chris and Jill, but that’s as extra as it gets in terms of new content. Everything else will be as it was 6 years ago.

You may ask “What’s the point?” I know I did. But I guess it’s another adult, non-kiddy title in the Wii’s library. God knows it needs ‘em about now. It’s also a chance for those who missed out on the GameCube classic to pick up a copy now. It’d probably be cheaper to buy the GameCube version – but good luck finding it now! It’s highly unlikely this game will release outside of Japan, but Wii owners can stay a little hopeful. REmake was a brilliant game on every front. The graphics were and still are amazing and the suspense the game built up created some tense moments. The whole experience felt so different from the PlayStation original that it really did feel like a new game. Capcom out did themselves. My only gripe was that the game was too difficult! The whole burning zombies bodies dealio got old and annoying real quick.

Many are speculating that Capcom’s decision to Wii-release Resident evil 0 and 1 is to lead up to a possible REmake of game number 2. I’ve been silently hoping for a REmake of 2 for a long time. I wish Capcom would stop porting and re-releasing shit and just re-make the damn game already! I’m not going to believe a REmake of 2 is on the cards, because I can’t afford to raise my hopes and then have Capcom break my heart when they announce “It is not happening” and then stamp on my broken heart with a “It never will”. A fan can still hope though. But given how long I’ve been hoping for a REmake of Resident evil 2, I’ll probably end up hoping for life.

Resident Evil 5 Coming to the Wii?

image

These days multi-platform announcements are becoming increasingly less surprising, and since we saw Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, I wouldn’t be surprised if its sequel followed suit. Apparently Sega of America’s president Simon Jeffrey blurted out the info while talking about Nintendo’s efforts to reconnect with core gamers in the future. He said, “Resident Evil 5 – when that happens on the Wii that’s going to help.”

He could have just been assuming the news rather than letting it slip, but Sega and Nintendo are such close partners these days that I bet he already would have known. And indeed, it is something for Wii-owning hardcore gamers to look forward to.

E3 Coverage: Capcom Resident Evil 5 Details

capcop-re5-e3-press-conference

Capcop has being quite vocal about Resident Evil 5 at this E3. Sadly, as vocal as they are they end up repeating the same stuff everywhere. This leaves us with but a few new details of RE5.

As far as the story goes, we know that its set 10 years after the destruction of Racoon City. With Chris Redfield working for the BSAA, a bio-terrorism fighting organization. He’s sent to Africa to investigate some sort of biological attack that has happened there. We also know that parallel to all of this, Chris has been tracking the original virus used by Umbrella . Coincidentally, both events lead him to the same town, Kijuju, how handy!

Resident evil 5: E3 2008 trailer

There’s not much to say really is there? Other than this game looks absolutely blinding and that you know for sure you’re buying this game when it releases for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in March of 2009. I have to say: Capcom have been a real roll lately with their games.
