Penny Arcade’s creators, Tycho and Gabe, claim that nowadays they see PA as more of a franchise than a webcomic. Never has this been more apparent than in Hothead Games’ Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, a godsend to children of the ’90s that spent their days with point-and-click adventures and turn-based console RPGs. While it’s short, and the bosses are somewhat cheap, $20 is a perfectly fair asking price for PA’s first video game.

For those not in the loop, Penny Arcade is a satirical webcomic poking fun at the games industry dating back in 1998, created by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik. This venture into comedy, producer-bashing, and all-out weirdness is so big, it spawned three huge gaming conventions, called the Penny Arcade Expo in the last three years. And I had the distinct pleasure of checking out the fourth one, entitled PAX ‘07.
Was it fun? Hell yes! Here are a few pics from the Flickr account of one of Penny Arcade’s confidante named Kiko (all pictures below and above are copyrighted of Kiko unless otherwise stated). Read more!
Ah, yes, Penny Arcade. Gabe and Tycho – both the most successful figures in the webcomic world. They’re powerful enough to host a charity (Child’s Play) and their own gaming convention (PAX) made by gamers for gamers. And now, they’ve created their own game. And from the looks of it, it’s going to be episodic – like Sam & Max. Now, I’ve heard about this months back, when Kotaku announced it. However, when I dismissed as another one of those projects that would be fun to do in theory… Like a lot of Kevin Smith’s project… or Communism. Well, they’ve finally released the trailer. And I must say, despite the graphics (and the fact I’m a couple of days late), I’m more excited about the cutscenes then the action. And maybe pumping the Fruit Fucker as well.
Edit: Huh… ironically enough, if you look under “categories”, it seems like the Penny Arcade post seems to have taken the 666th post… Uhm… Congrats?
