Oh hey guys, glad you could make it, Tuesday-tans is just coming out of the oven, gather round while I bring out some dishes. This week I prepared for you a delicious serving of NT-tan, please enjoy!

NT-tan is one of the cutest of the OS-tans, she is more often than not depicted as a little girl wearing a simple baby blue dress. She’s hardworking and very pragmatic. NT-tan would much rather stay home than go out, so she’s often pictured carrying the role of a housekeeper. She also appears to wear cyber cat paws sometimes, they most likely help her doing maintenance and cleanup.

This week’s Tuesday-tans stars Linspire-tan, characterizing the infamous Linspire (previously Lindows) OS. Not Windows, not Linux and yet both at the same time, Linspire-tan isn’t liked by either. The Windows-tan girls cast her off as an outsider, a poseur, a wannabe. The Linux-tans see her as the black sheep of the family, denying her roots and trying to be something she isn’t. Poor Linspire-tan is never really given a chance to prove herself.

Being such an outcast has its perks though, Linspire-tan enjoys the freedom to experiment with everything she pleases without much interference. She’s a consummated geek but also a party girl, she’ll try anything once and that often leads her to interesting situations, to say the least. The office work scene doesn’t become her, although she’s really smart she’d rather work in one of her own projects than share a word with Excel-kun.

Her attire is usually a long white dress / tanktop sporting the Linspire logo and matching tights. She’s also got gradient colored hair from green to blue. She has, however, been seen wearing other outfits and even cosplaying as some other OS-tans in hopes of interacting with them without being scorned. She is the little OS-tan that could, show her some love, enjoy the gallery and I’ll see you next week!

In this week’s edition of Tuesday-tans we’ll be visiting one of the most beloved OS-tans and the only one with its personal vehicle. I’m talking, of course, of Windows 98-tan.

There are actually two 98-tan characters, one for the original OS and one for Windows 98 SE. 98-tan is often seen dressed in a white sleeveless shirt, a blue skirt and a 98 hair clip, SE-tan, on the other hand, dones a green schoolgirl outfit. Their personalities are pretty much alike with SE-tan being a little more festive and, of course, younger than 96-tan. Despite SE-tan’s festiveness both sisters are somewhat introverted and so you dont see them interacting normally with the other OS-tans. Although when either of them gets angry, beware because things will get ugly!

Both girls have their own quasi-robot vehicles which are just boxes with Pocky for arms and legs. When riding in these the sisters are very aggressive and wont hesitate to kick some ass. When not in a destructive mood though, these boxes serve as their rooms or private shelters. As you can see the 98-tan sisters are quite drastic in their moods and its precisely these passive and aggressive sides that makes them so loved by the fans.

Today we have a very special video for you, its the opening to the OS-tan series titled Troubled Windows.

Well before you get all excited, there is really no anime series in the works. This video is a Japanese classic, a fan made faux opening to an anime series based on the OS-tans. Its pretty amateurish by today’s standards but back in the day this video was a big factor in the OS-tan rage. The song used in the video is Sakuranbo Kiss from Kotoko.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tuesday-tans, coming back after a one week hiatus to show you a little deeper into the world of OS-tans, console-tans and everything else-tans! I do apologize for last week’s lack of an update, it completely slipped my mind, valentine’s day preparations are to blame, but I digress.   

Today we go back to OS-tans to show one of the original OS-tans around, and a very special one for its the only one that can fly. I’m talking about CE-tan of course. This little, and I do mean little, girl with her happy-go-lucky attitude is the embodiment of Microsoft’s long time solution for a mobile OS. She’s always seen carrying her magical USB staff around and she’s often portrayed as a magical girl because of it.

She’s also often drawn as a moe blob very reminiscent of Chibi-moon from Sailor Moon. Her size, sometimes like a diminute fairy and other times like a really small child varies from artist to artist but they all obviously represent her little resource usage. If you’re tempted to ask “is this loli?”, well I’m not sure the anthropomorphized form of an OS can qualify as loli. But your mileage my vary when you’re at court!

Welcome, dear readers, to a special edition of Tuesday-tans. Special because I use my laziness, excess of school work and a the current IDOLM@STER fad in the same post and manage to get away with it. See if you can stop me!

Yes, welcome to the OSM@STER edition of Tuesday-tans, this week featuring a video that mixes the style of the OSM@STER game with short animated clips from the main OS-tans dancing, prancing and singing. Its all a fan work which makes the quality of the clip a nice surprise.

I just hope this game never meets reality, as it would manage to halt the entirety of the Japanese IT industry, as if its not already under heavy stress.

With Windows Vista just released it is our duty, nay, our pleasure to bring you Vista-tan as this week’s OS-tan. Since the Longhorn days the one thing surrounding Longhorn-tan/Vista-tan/Vistan has been diversity and struggle. There are easily over a dozen different designs for Vista-tan, with only two of them being actively popular right now at launch.

The one on the left is the most recent one, with a transparent Aero skirt and Windows media undertones everywhere. The latest theories calls her Media Center Edition Vista-tan. There’s an image in the bottom gallery with call-outs explaining her features.

On the right we have the most pervasive design so far. A tanned girl with long curly silver hair and a sailor fuku uniform. Some claim this Vista-tan design depicts a Latin american girl instead of your typical American/Japanese ambiguity, this would be a first among the Windows OS girls. Another interesting fact is that Vista-tan has always carried a reputation of being a futanari girl, obviously as a result of the Longhorn name.

Not much else is known about Vista-tan’s personality at the moment, so its pretty much just pictures today, lots of them. Enjoy and see you next week!

If that picture above seems oddly familiar its because it was featured in Django’s latest Cosplay update. She is 2k-tan and she’s the star of todays Tuesday-tan update.

2k-tan is, by far, the most popular of all the OS-tans. Representing Windows 2000, arguably one of Microsoft’s most reliable systems, she is the proverbial independent woman. Hardworking, dependable, efficient. This is reflected in her appearance, wearing glasses to depict intelligence and a maid hairclip to show her willingness to serve. Unlike other OS-tans she doesn’t have a logo on her hair but rather a couple of tech-looking cat ears. She’s often the moral center of all the OS-tans and being the opposite of Windows ME, Microsoft’s most unstable system, 2k-tan often treats ME-tan as a little sister under her protection. Now on to the pics!

Yes its this week’s edition of Tuesday-tans… on a Wednesday. Sorry for the delay, I switched ISPs and I was offline for more than a day. Today’s character is one of my favorite OS-tans as anyone who knows me will tell you that I have a thing for dark, gothic or gothic lolita outfits. Windows 3.1-tan dons one such outfit and is one of the older OS-tans story-wise but she’s often depicted as a small girl. This goes on to support the saying that the size and age of OS-tans represents the complexity and resource requirements of the OS.

3.1-tan is always around her little black cat DOS, is quite shy and keeps to herself. Since she is no longer a supported OS 3.1-tan is often sad around the other more loved OS-tans. Now on to the pretty pictures!

As 2007 comes dangerously close to my timezone its time for the last post of the year! Let it be an otaku music bit! This time closing the year with a very special band from Japan. Its called 5strings and it would be your typical jpop band except all of the members cosplay while they play and the 3 female singers cosplay as OS-tans! See if you can spot a -tan we’ve covered in a previous week.

Welcome to the second edition of tuesday-tans where we feature a different -tan character each week. Last week we had a look at console tans by featuring Wii-tan. This week we will enter the world of OS-tans, the characters that started it all and as you have probably deducted by the picture, this week’s character is none other than XP-tan.

Actually there are three XP-tans based on different editions of Windows XP. There’s XP Pro-tan wich is the standard and the one featured here XP Home Edition and also Media Center Edition. XP-tan, being quite the bloated OS and a memory hog by excellence, is very well endowed. Actually breast size often represents the memory usage of the OS. She’s often wearing a blue schoolgirl uniform, but quite frankly, I much prefer this ‘little black dress’ edition up there. Now on to some pictures, including a special Xmas outfit!
