E3 Demo Of High Voltage Software: The Grinder

Last week Nahu posted information on HVS upcoming title, The Grinder. Ben Kuchera from Ars Technica sat down with the development team and Mark Sheppard, voice actor and front showman for The Grinder, during E3. With an expected release of late 2010, the game is still in its infancy stage, but the playable demo looks very impressive for being made in 2 months and the final release may contain support for the WiiMotion Plus. The Ars post highlighted an angel investor is funding High Voltage, leaving them to develop and innovate (which it shows) and not stress about finding a publisher. HVS is producing at least two other titles, The Grinder and Gladiator AD, building on the same technical innovations used in The Conduit (to be release June 23rd).

Not wanting to raise my expectations too high, how this developer is leveraging the Wii technology is raising my anticipation for their releases. You can expect a thorough review of The Conduit later this month.

Of Bodybuilders And Rainbows: Muscle March Debuts On Wii

What better way to demonstrate superior fist pumping skills and lighting fast reflexes to your friends than with Muscle March. Due out May 26th on the Wii Virtual Console, Muscle Koushinkyoku utilizes the both the Wiimote and nunchuk to position your mantie-wearing bodybuilder through a series of obstacles ala Human Tetris with the intent to leap frog over your competitor until you reach first place.  Unfortunately this title appears to be a Japanese only release. From what I gather shown in the trailer, you should be able to have up to 4 friends compete in this technicolor circle jerk.

*update*

It’s now been released on Wii Channel Japan. I’ve included a vid posted on Nico…

Last month, rumors circulated as EA CEO John Riccitello mentioned a Dead Space title for the Wii. Now it’s official. Due some time in autumn of 2009 Dead Space Extraction will be told as a prequel to the events of the original Dead Space released for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Extraction will be made solely with the Wii in mind, built from the ground up and extensively using the motion controls in this FPS title. Offering new weapons, enemies and co-op multiplayer, Extraction is sure to deliver a much needed injection of horror to the Wii library.

New Footage of Upcoming Wii Title: The Conduit

The_Conduit_Logo

See that game cover above? I know what you must be thinking…“Is Keanu Reeves staring in a new game?” Thankfully, no, at least not yet. But, please don’t judge this game by the box art. The Conduit is currently being developed exclusively for the Wii by High Voltage Software. Newly released footage looks amazing and really shows the “Quantum3” game engine, which was specifically developed for the Wii to create the same illusory functions as the PS3 and Xbox360 despite hardware limitations.

This futuristic FPS is set to be released sometime in Spring 2009. Since there is still some time before the release there’s no need to get mixed up in the plot, suffice to say it has conspiracies and guns. Watch the newest eye-candy and development videos after the jump!

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle announced

In the wake of all of the awesome stuff we’ve seen from TGS, even more stuff keeps coming down the tubes. Namely, the announcement of the sequel to No More Heroes, one of my favorite Wii titles. In the trailer, we see Travis Touchdown, the game’s geeky smart-ass hero, wielding a new beam katana. It looks like he’s about to fight an unknown opponent who has some awesome weaponry at her disposal. At the very end, Travis screams "I’LL BE BACK!" just as the trailer cuts to the title.

I’m definitely looking forward to this. As I stated, NMH was one of my favorite titles for the Wii. Despite the repetitive gameplay and short story, the game had a charm all it’s own, with awesome characters, great boss fights, and a great overall look. No idea on when it’s coming out, but I’m picking it up as soon as it does.

New Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles Trailer

So there’s a new trailer for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles out there on YouTube. Its not really as much of a trailer as its a fly through of the mansion from the original Resident Evil. The graphics look quite well, I’m sure it will do justice to the zombies.

Not very exciting but thats what you get, for now.

Red Steel made better, stronger: Ubisoft listens to the fans!

red steel.JPGRed Steel was a game that enjoyed a special kind of fame. Being the first official game revealed for the Nintendo Wii, fanboys and haters clinged to this game like water in the desert. For fanboys Red Steel was proof that the Wii was the best thing since bread in a can and that it would even end world hunger! That is, until people actually played it.
