North America may very well be seeing their first DS Tales title some time next year. Namco-Bandai has reportedly trademarked the “Tales of Hearts” name in the US, leading us to believe that they plan to bring the title stateside. For those unfamiliar, Tales of Hearts is the upcoming DS title that follows Vesperia in the “Mothership” Tales series. It will reportedly sport a 2 gigabit cart, containing cutscenes in both 3D CGI and anime-style, allowing the player to choose which s/he would like to view.

No official press release or date has been set, so let’s hope this isn’t something like Chrono Break.

A homebrewer going by the name of Fuzzy has made a very crude version of Smash Bros. for the DS as you can see on the video above, called Smash Brothers Rumble. It seems to be a completely new engine of sorts with custom sprites and the likes. Its still at a very early stage as you can see but the project shows promise. Lets see how far he can get before the cease and desist arrives!

Download Smash Bros. Rumble files here.

Thanks grumbr!

Amidst all of the excitement about Chrono Trigger DS (I’m excited, are you excited? I’m excited!), from Shonen Jump comes a tiny cut-off scan of what could very well be yet another Tales game for the Nintendo DS, Tales of Heart.

All that’s on the web now is this image, which shows two different styles of character art and presumably the two lead characters, Shing and Kohaku. The game will be sprite based in 3D environments, unlike the 3D models of Tales of the Tempest and Tales of Innocence (Both of which have yet to receive any stateside release).

Hopefully the newfound popularity of the series will pave the way for at least one DS Tales game coming stateside. Please, Namco? We’ve been good!

Guitar Hero On Tour is the latest in Activision’s part of the Guitar Hero franchise, and the one with the most potential for being a cheap cash-in. Fear not though, because it’s actually not entirely terrible!

After that small teaser video of the chaotic gameplay of their upcoming DS RPG, Sting has rolled out a new trailer showcasing the intro to Knights in the Nightmare. The trailer shows the game’s great sprites and special effects, and also even further evidence that the game will only be voiced in English: Good news for people who like to import games, bad news for people who prefer other audio tracks.

The trailer is a small tidbit to gnaw on to keep us satisfied until the newly delayed release date of September 25th.

In either a colossal screw-up by retailers everywhere or a very sneaky release date bump by Atlus, Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard is now appearing on shelves in North America. Copies have been sighted as early as yesterday, giving this a 4-day early release. Atlus’ last newsletter and the official site still have this listed as a June 17th release.

If you enjoy dungeon crawling and more than a fair share of challenge, be sure to pick it up! Most Gamestop locations aren’t getting many more than the amount to cover their pre-orders!

windy

For those of you that are unaware of the game’s existence, Windy x Windam is a fighting game by Success and Ninja Studio of Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja fame. Windy x Windam features a small lineup of fighters including Izuna and Shino.

In the official website’s recent update Shino’s movelist was added, as well as the love child of Vega and Voldo, G. Some ingame screenshots showcased very nice looking sprites and a slick interface with two different non-life gauges: A Boost Gauge and a Windam Gauge, probably for different special moves. A couple of wallpapers were added as well, featuring the game’s box art and the character art of Kirikou. A couple of javascript clocks with Kirikou and Riisu art were also added, for whatever use one could have for one of those.

Seeing as how both Izuna games have been given the North American treatment, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect an English release of this some time in the future. If not, though, fighting games are among the most import-friendly genres out there, so most can still enjoy the game whether or not they can read the text. Windy x Windam makes it way to the DS on July 31st.

rhapsody

In a recent interview with RPGamer.com Nippon Ichi Software America defended Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice against criticisms that the game could have just as easily been run on a Playstation 2 rather than a Playstation 3, as well as let slip plans to release the Nintendo DS port of Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure in the US. The game is slated for a release in Japan in August, so expect a release date for the English version sometime soon!

NISA also advises us to keep our eyes and ears open on Friday:

We’ve got some surprise announcements to be made on June 6, 2008 at our San Francisco event, so please look forward to them. Also some of the games that you mentioned above…we are working on them right now.

Said games mentioned above include Mana Khemia 2, Ar Tonelico 2, and Cross Edge. We’ll keep you updated on what new titles are headed our way!

Sting has released a gameplay video of the fourth episode in their Dept. Heaven series for the Nintendo DS, Knights in the Nightmare. The game calls itself a “Turn-based RTS” which in itself seems contradictory. However, this trailer shows how that kind of mechanic is, indeed, possible.

The player controls the glowing white spirit with the stylus and commands units on the touchscreen. Enemies launch shoot-’em-up style attacks at the spirit, which you must dodge to avoid taking damage. It’s unknown how the non-spirit friendlies factor in in terms of HP, but they’re used to destroy any enemies you fight against.

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo is trying to one-up its predecessor. The sequel to the controversial DS game where you had to touch some jailbait hunt witches by way of inspecting them physically appears to be putting more emphasis on the watching as much as the touching aspect of the game.

If the box-art of the game is any indication this time around you will be equipped with some sort of X-ray device that allows you to…. analyze your subject much more thoroughly. Oh boy, remember when Nintendo was too much of a prude for M rated games? When did we jump from that to this. Talk about a change of heart, not that I’m complaining.

Wait, I mean Legend of ZEL-da. Because of, you know, the whole internet forums bitching about Link’s new cartoony look. Oh wait, that joke’s 3 years old? Review after the jump.

And here comes Sonic Rush Adventure, delivering you the same kind of action you got back when the Blue Hedgehog was popular on the Saturn! And this time, we’re looking for pirate booty! It’s going to be as much fun as Sonic Rush, except this time, you’re going to be dealing with… well… pirates. And yes, there will be Wi-Fi Connection and yes the DS Download And Play will be available.

Sonic Rush Adventure allows players to bounce, fly, swing, ride and run through grand environments of lush forests, an ominous ghost ship, snow covered mountains, pirate villages and a vast underwater sea cave. Along the way there will be a variety of enemy characters to battle against including robots, skeleton warriors, pterodactyls, and a robotic triceratops.

Sounds promising. Here’s some eye candy.

So Velcor has either been fighting ninjas in his home for several days or he has been lazy about posting his ComiCon exploits. Luckily I have some of his material, Bwahaha! You see, velcor was hanging out at the Nintendo booth, allegedly kicking serious ass in Metroid when he saw that Charles Martinet, Mario’s voice, was appearing there in a while. So Velcor did the right fanboyish thing to do and waited for him to arrive.

Long story short Velcor talked a little with him and Charles was nice enough to sign a couple ads (he signed one in Spanish!) and he also was nice enough to sign his DS lite! Hit the jump for proof.

With the recent launch of the Nintendo DS Opera browser one of the main complaints was that it was near impossible to use any sort of IM software/website. Well the brave souls on the cutting edge frontier of homebrew software (what?) have come up with a solution! Beup is a program that allows you to connect to MSN, have a picture avatar, have a special status nd even send and receive ink messages!

Here, have a video!

And you can download it here.

DS_Lite_Closed.jpgThe guys over at Penny Arcade got a package in the mail yesterday, nothing out of the ordinary really. The sender was Nintendo, thats pretty cool! The content was a brand new DS lite, thats awesome! But what really takes the cake is the package, its really something you have to see to understand. Gabe says:

We’ve been on the Nintendo PR list for a couple years now and they always try to make their packages fun. They never just ship you a game they have to go the extra mile. Things like the original DS coming with a fake mannequin hand because “touching is good”. Or the DS version of Animal Crossing coming with a bunch of cleaning supplies as a “house warming” gift. So we got a package from them today and it turned out to be the new DS Lite. We took a little video of this one because you really have to see it.

On to the video!
