Well I suppose I really shouldn’t be surprised. I mean it was only a matter of time before the Nintendo 64 Kid was forced to step down from his throne fashioned out of millions upon millions of lolz from all over the world. Thus, I present you with the “Wii Kid.”
Sure it doesn’t really roll off of the tounge like the pseudonym of his predecessor, but the video clip is still funny as all hell.

After all these years following gaming through its many many forms (mainly Nintendo’s in the console area) there’s a time when you ask yourself: “Is videogaming worth all the things I do for the sake of it?” I could do other things, get other hobbies like:
-Building miniature ships inside of bottles.
-Have a pet.
-Go to night clubs and hit on random women. . .although studies say that a lot of these will be men.
You get the idea. So wonderful hobbies this world has for us. . .and most of us have decided to go into gaming. Well, I couldn’t be more satisfied.
Shigeru Miyamoto started it and incited a bunch of others who also created fascinating worlds and characters who give us that small spice of adventure, drama, and whatnot to our daily lives, giving us hope that we can do anything if we have the correct set of mind. But Mr. Miyamoto was first, and without his idea, I don’t really know what kind of human or animal would have been Mario (And yes, it is WRITTEN that the character who would rise videogames from the flames shall be called Mario!).
I only think that, with the release of Mario Galaxy this 2007, giving some hope for the Mario-solo franchise, this character is worthy of the yearly Retro Video compilation extravaganza!
First, we’ll start with the first game with Mario in it, Donkey Kong (Video by lfrage):

Oh the days of the N64 and the Gameshark, those where the days, fucking with games had never been more satisfying, specially Mario 64, as we can see in this video which does a masterful work at screwing up the game. But as awesome as it is, I’m left wanting more Arwings in Zelda.

Here’s a video thats going around GameTrailers, that’s making me seriously question Nintendo. Its Ocarina of Time played with the Wiimote, via emulation and a bluetooth dongle, very simple actually. From the author:
Using the Wiimote, Project64, GlovePIE, my homemade sensor bar, and a Bluetooth USB dongle, you can set up OoT to play with Twilight Princess controls.
This cant have taken more than a month to pull off and it was done by a fan. So, what exactly was Nintendo adding to the game while they waited so many months to launch it with the Wii? My money is on pretty much nothing.

Anyone who was gaming in the N64 era (I cant believe the N64 is retro now) will tell you Goldeneye was the party game back then. I can remember playing deathmatch on the same map for 12 hours straight. It was the perfect game. I still play it every now and then. Nintendo apparently knows this and is trying to bring the classic title to the Virtual Console.
Reggie was quoted in an interview with MTV saying the following: “Suffice it to say we would love to see it, so we’re exploring all the rights issues.” Those issues are quite complex and in some scenarios Ive heard they would have to deal with Sony and Microsoft. Quite an ordeal but worth the fight? Definitely.
So what is a nostalgia filled gamer to do when the call of blasting your opponent’s face with remote mines wakes you up at night?
Short of hooking up the old N64 and firing up that Goldeneye cartridge (if you have one) you can go for Goldeneye: Source, a remake based on the source engine. We’ve talked about Goldeneye: Source before and they just announced they are ready to release another beta to the public.
The future is bright for this old gem that refuses to go quietly into the night. Just a tip: dont hold your breath for the VC version, better start scouting ebay for that cartridge.

Its no news that there’s a team out there working on remaking Goldeneye for the Source engine, what is news is that they’ve finally released a trailer. It shows no fighting and barely any gameplay with just a couple or characters running around. Nonetheless, this is great news for those of us looking to relive the olden days of consoles FPS. They sure dont make them like they used to.
Am I the only one disappointed that they didn’t show the toilets?
By the way, the trailer used to be on YouTube, MGM took it down for use of its properties, early sign of cease and desist?

Website DSmeet has an exclusive interview with Brandon Kuzma, better known as the N64 kid from that infamous youtube video. Brandon recently put his Nintendo 64 up for auction on Ebay and so he has made the news again.
Of all the question asked in the interview I think the best one is when DSmeet asks Brandon if he is a gamer and he says:
N64Kid: NO not at all actually, haha I spend my time filming skateboarding and short films, editing, working on my website, skateboarding, being with my girlfriend, and what not.
Amazing, that beacon of remembrance from holidays and the joy of a new videogame/console past is in fact not a gamer anymore! Thats a shame, but really the best question might just be this one:
DSM: What’s your favorite flavor bowling ball? N64Kid: Probably the ones with the flowers and the happiness that comes out of it.
Yes, don’t we all love the happiness that comes out of it?

Indie game makers are a strange breed, they feed on carcasses and hopes and rainbows and candy flows from their rectum. But besides being a biological mystery they also make some sweet games, like this 2D adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time by Daniel Barras. While still a demo, the game shows much promise. The conversion to 2D is very detailed, and frankly seeing the A Link to the Past style makes me happy. :)

Zakie Chan productions has released a great video parody of Goldeneye for the N64. It really brings back memories of playing for 12 hours straight with your next door neighbor. It points out the almost universal visual flaws of all FPS and it does it in a hilarious way. Video after the jump.
