Hi there, you seem to be new here! Here at Dark Diamond we frequently update with news about video games, anime, Japan and other cool stuff. Head on over to our homepage or go ahead and subscribe to get updates! Enjoy!
You’ve heard it, you’ve seen it mentioned everywhere on the internet, with your friends, your mom, your grandma and even that nice hobo down the street. Michael Jackson is dead. Now you’ve heard it here too.
Now, child abuse accusations aside Michael was a plastic surgery addict. Ok, ok. Child abuse accusations and bad nose jobs aside Michael was a pretty creepy man. Lets try that again, shall we? Child abuse accusations, bad nose jobs and creepiness aside Michael Jackson was a legendary musician and performer that shaped a great part of pop culture for nearly two decades. Ah there we go that sounded better.
He not only brought us great music but also taught a racism-divided world that color was not an issue and that in fact you could change colors yourself, provided you had millions of dollars and an adventurous doctor.
But that’s not why I want to remember Michael today, no sir, after all we’re all about games and anime. So I want to talk about that other great thing Michael gave us: Moonwalker, The Game.

Think you’re so good at Dance Dance Revolution that when you’re on the dance pad people say you are on fire? I bet not like this. This is Dance Dance Immolation, the long overdue combination of two things that should have never been appart: DDR and flamethrowers.
The folks from Boing Boing TV bring us a close look at this art project where you play DDR but if you miss a single step you get your face stuffed with fire. A product of the art collective Interpretive Arson, this project has been in the works for a few years now and is doing rounds on art festivals and maker events. I dont know about you but I’d pay good money to play this. Actually, I’d pay even more to see my enemies play it, without the flame suit. Two men come in, dinner comes out.
I propose the new Mad Max movie has this instead of the thunderdome.

Music Catch 2 is further proof that original gameplay and enthralling gaming experiences dont have to come from multimillion dollar blockbuster games featuring 10 new shades of brown. Sometimes all it takes is a simple game with no pretentions to return a smile to our bitter faces.
Part bullet hell, part puzzle, part music game, Music Catch 2’s premise is obviously simple. You have to catch the music! Collect shapes to earn points, yellow notes are good, red notes are bad, purple notes are POWER!
Before you know it you’ll be immersed in a wonderful world of glowing shapes and gentle, intriguing music. Hit the jump to play it and remember a bit of why you used to like videogames in the first place.

If you play a guitar you’ve surely ranted against a few Guitar Hero/Rockband players for thinking they could play a real guitar. If you’re a hardcore Guitar Hero/Rockband player, you’ve surely toyed with the idea of picking up the real instrument. Well it seems a day were we can all agree is closer than ever before as Disney, yeah seriously, Disney, has finally got guitars and games playing along.
Star Guitarist is a new software/game/technology made by Disney in alliance with Washburn Guitars, which allows you to play a guitar and have a computer detect what’s being played in real time. The result is a Guitar instructor/Guitar Hero hybrid that’s able to teach you how to play the guitar in the same way that you’d play a Guitar Hero game. The software which comes with its own set of special guitar strings costs $200 and will be released for both the PC and Mac in the summer. Not only is it pretty sweet as a game, it’s also a breakthrough in digital music. Expect some pretty cool things from this in the future.

While we’re on the topic of silly franchise adaptations how about this? There’s a Dance Dance Revolution musical being prepared for this December. Its a “show set in an Orwellian society where dance is illegal. A group of local street toughs harbor no hope of overthrowing the fascistic no — fun government — until a mysterious dance prophet named Moonbeam Funk arrives”.
Oh boy, once Moonbeam Funk arrives you know its gonna be a party! Most disturbing of all though is that the show features original songs from Gary Adler and Phoabe Kreutz. Why the hell make a DDR musical if you’re not using DDR music? Not even ‘Moonbeam Funk’ can make up for that.
A new version of the popular PSP based IIDX clone, DJ MAX hits the streets. Does it satisfy as much as the first two? Will your thumbs be bloody stumps the time you put down your psp? Click on through for the full review!

IGN today revealed exclusive information regarding the oh so rumored and discussed Guitar Hero game for the Nintendo DS. The game uses a peripheral called the Guitar Grip, which connects to the GBA port and has a strap for holding the DS with the palm of your hand like a book. The peripheral also comes with a nicely designed pick-shaped stylus to strum the guitar chords as your notes appear on screen.
This is as good as I can imagine a portable Guitar Hero being, the peripheral is actually portable, dispelling fears of a portable guitar. But on the downside you’ll look even more ridiculous than when you wail your little toy guitar around, lets just hope it delivers on the fun factor. The game comes out this summer loaded with 20 songs and enough in-game advertising to choke a cow.
