First Impressions Review: K-ON

k-on-band

You know the story, girl meets boy, boy is a drooling idiot, a total cliché and tries too hard to make her like him. In the end, against all odds, the boy gets the girl. Well that’s also what happened with K-on and me, I hated the series on the first episode, absolutely despised it. It was the anime equivalent of Taco Bell: flavorless, cheap, an unintended parody of its genre.

So how is it that after only 3 episodes I’m a true believer?

Konata’s Corridor Of Time Puts Moe In Your Time Travel

Some days we love mashups, other days we hate them, and then there’s days like today. Days where there is no black or white, only different shades of blue, Konata blue.

What you see above is a mashup of Chrono Trigger’s Corridors of Time, one of the most iconic tracks of one of the most iconic game soundtracks ever, mixed with Lucky Star’s Konata. Konata’s Time Corridor is something I can neither love nor hate, only admire. This definitely took dedication to make, the kind of dedication only a Lucky Star fan could muster… since it takes the same kind of perseverance or sadism to watch Lucky Star.

In any case, there it is, Konata’s Time Corridor. Love it? Hate it? I sure hope your choice is clearer than mine!

Moetan – An Overall Review

Moetan

Whoa, a lot of things have been happening around happy ol’ Velcor here but even so I still manage to give you my most beloved internet babies: Well-thought, deeply analyzed, completely impartial, and last but not least, awesome reviews!

Even though Moetan isn’t to be taken seriously as a show, it still has a few remarkable things many of you will like; we’ve got lolis, cat ears, transformation scenes and even some self-flagellation by the staff itself on how bad this show gets as each episode is released.

Pankore: Punk Rock Goes Moe

Nothing’s sacred in Japan anymore, everything can be moe-fied, even punk rock. Avex Entertainment has released Punkcore (Pankore), an album that sums up its premise in a very concise way: Voice Actresses, Legendary Punk Rock Songs Collection.

And it is, precisely, that. A collection of 12 punk and rock songs sung in the most inappropriate voice ever. In some cases, like in Pretty Fly For A White Guy you can hear above, its actually pretty cool. While in others, like Smells Like Teen Spirit, which you can see below, the results are simply baffling.

Rizelmine – An Overall Review -

vlcsnap-1155294.jpgIt had been a very very long time since I watched a “moe” anime. . . and I think I hit the spot on finding one of the most honey-drenched, abyssmal-plotted, ridiculous-love relations anime on the list. . .Rizelmine. Here’s what I think. . .
