The latest trailer from the highly-anticipated Tri-Ace RPG beings with what looks like a backstory of the mythos of Infinite Undiscovery’s world, and then gets to the business of introducing a rather impressive number of characters, all of whom look like they’ll be party members. Finally after a bit more of this, we get to see some delicious gameplay footage.
Right away the architecture of towns and dungeons reminded me of Final Fantasy XII, as did the seemless battle/exploration, which of course takes inspiration from MMORPGs. This battle system is all about combos and coordinating your attacks together as a team. In a few scenes you can see the party members surrounding enemies and attacking different foes simultaneously.
Hopefully someone with an XBox 360 can review this game for us when it comes out on September 2nd worldwide.
DDN: All JRPGs, all the time. But seriously, there’s just been an amazing amount of news on the genre this summer. But while you’re waiting for the next big thing to be released (Disgaea 3, Infinite Undiscovery, Final Fantasy XIII, Tales of Vesperia, Valkyria Chronicles, and a boatload more!) you can kick back with some reprints of some arguably great games from the last generation you may have missed…
According to Destructoid, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga, AR Tonelico: Melody of Elemia, and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness are all being reprinted (or in some cases re-reprinted?). Both Shin Megami Tensei games are available at Play-Asia, and both NIS games are available at Rosenqueen. I’ve missed almost all of these games, so I should probably get while the gettin’s good! And you should too.

FUCK YES! Excuse me while I throw my editorial style out the window for this one. I’m just really fucking excited! If you load up this page on Square-Enix’s Japanese site you’ll be greeted by a really, really REALLY familiar clock sound. The URL for this site also ending in CTDS and the DS logo in the website mean only one thing dear reader!
CHRONO TRIGGER FOR THE NINTENDO DS! Holy crap, as much as I have bashed Square doing rehashes of games for the DS I simply cannot contain my overwhelming excitement over playing Chrono Trigger again, on the DS. There are really no more details right now but that doesn’t matter. Readers, no…. friends, excuse me while I kiss the sky!
Joystiq just got a hold of a huge amount of new screens from Star Ocean: The Last Hope, The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, and Tales of Vesperia from a recent Microsoft press conference. The images of Infinite Undiscovery look a lot like things we’ve already seen from the trailer, but they’re still easy on the eyes.
Sadly the images from The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: The Last Hope look fairly generic and homogenous apart from Star Ocean’s familiar sci-fi bent. Maybe I’m just a sucker for cel-shading but I’m most excited about Tales of Vesperia, which is showing off beautifully rich colors and whimsical villages.

Today Square Enix opened the doors of its North American merchandise online store, it features items that have been common in Japan for some years now and that you could only get by import in this side of the ocean. However, a quick browse around the store and you’ll see these are not the cheap knock-off stuff you are used to see on eBay. This is the real deal, expensive, bling your heart out silver jewelry! There is also a lot of figures, plushies (chocobo!) and even a SHINRA Employee ID Card Case, for any official SHINRA business.
Visit with a wide open mind and an even wider wallet, and hurry because the stuff is selling out fast!
