Lets get away from E3 for a bit to watch something that wasn’t made by a big company, no multi-million dollar budget, hell its not even exactly legal. This is Mega Man 2.5, a homebrew game in development by Peter Sjostrand. The game, much like Paper Mario, gives a 3D twist to a 2D word. Based mainly on Mega Man 2 with a co-op mode based on Mega Man 3. This is the kind of project that shows the talent of rogue homebrew developers, too bad most of them don’t survive a Cease and Desist from the original company.

We’ve seen people mess with the wiimote’s hardware ever since it came out but we’ve rarely seen such real life applications as in this video. This is a huge touchscreen the people from The Evolution Control Committee made out of two wiimotes, a projector and a couple of other awesome little hacks. The end result is a fully functional touchscreen that’s used to generate some bitchin’ mashup tracks. But still, companies refuse to see the reason for homebrew.

A homebrewer going by the name of Fuzzy has made a very crude version of Smash Bros. for the DS as you can see on the video above, called Smash Brothers Rumble. It seems to be a completely new engine of sorts with custom sprites and the likes. Its still at a very early stage as you can see but the project shows promise. Lets see how far he can get before the cease and desist arrives!

Still bugged the Wii lacks any media capabilities? Well the buzzing Wii Homebrew scene has the answer! A recently released application called Wii Media borrows a page from XBMC, the famous Xbox media center software, in turning your Wii into a functional media center, being able to play audio and video from an SD card as well as listening to ShoutCast radio online.
This is just the first release of Wii Media, V.01 so don’t expect it to be perfect by any measure. The project is set to go open source after the base code is cleaned up which should speed up development and who knows, in 6 months or so your Wii could be a mean, lean, media machine.

Lo and behold as the Indie and homebrew game scene quickly jumps on board the Wii. A group of flash artists and game designers have teamed up to launch Wiicade, a flash arcade game vault, all games are designed for complete control using the Wiimote. Some of these games are just typical minute wasters but there’s a few nicely polished ones out there like Pursuit, an adventure game in the old point and click tradition. Whether you have a Wii or, like us, are stuck with your keyboard and mouse for a couple more weeks, check out Wiicade for some flashy fun.

Screw electroplankton, the DS midi complete with synth software is a music and gaming geek’s wet dream.
It turns the DS into something much like the Kaoss Pad. Without a doubt my favorite DS hack to date. And the arcane magic behind it seems to be quite simple too. The author has also coded a sequencer called dSTAR, which looks like this.
