We all remember back when, whenever Kadokawa told us that Haruhi was indeed airing this season, then all our hopes and dreams got shot down when they announce that it’s only a rerun? Of course, Haruhi Season 2 rumors have been about as rare as “MGS 4 for the 360” ones were. But even after being so blatantly shut down, we keep on hearing more rumors here and there.

Rumors have been flying wild around the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ever since it was announced back in 2007. Years have passed and fans had been expecting this to be the year of Haruhi’s return. With even a tentative April date being discussed as the launch date for the project.
Now it turns out the much discussed April date is nothing more than a rerun of the series. However, many circles around the Japanese web have been rumoring that the rerun might actually be a decoy and that it is actually a 2nd season. Others say that it will be a rerun with some new content or new episodes in the middle. Whatever it is, it’s already got many hardcore fans dancing Hare Hare Yukai in a very angry manner.
It’s been announced that Sega is not only working on a Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya game for the DS, but is also developing one for the Wii as well. Like its portable counterpart, it will be a point-and-click adventure game. It’s called Suzumiya Haruhi no Heiretsu (The Arrangement of Haruhi Suzumiya) and is coming out next year.
The other upcoming Wii game from this franchise is the one from Namco Bandai, which at first was marketed as a dancing game (more Samba de Amigo than DDR). Alas, now they’re playing up other features of the game where you can play baseball, rock paper tell fortunes, and engage in rock-paper-scissors matches (how exciting!!!). This game, titled Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidou (The Startling Shock of Haruhi Suzumiya), will be out in Japan this November.
That’s right, Sega just got a sweet piece of the coveted Suzumiya pie that has been so lucrative in Japan over the last few years. As of now they have only purchased it for DS, and are looking to make an adventure game with a new storyline separate from the famous anime series.
The release is slated for Winter, so we should be getting more information on this title soon, which for now is just going by the default name of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). If by “adventure” they mean point and click, I’d be pretty stoked about this title, but Sega isn’t really known for producing in that genre, so it will be interesting to see what kind of game this becomes.

There’s a new Haruhi game slated for release in Japan this year and no its not a dating sim, its not even really a visual novel, its the most a Haruhi game can really aspire to be, its a dancing game. This new Wii game will have you waving your arms around to Hare Hare Yukai and perhaps 10 other remixes of Hare Hare Yukai. If this sounds as exciting as attending a wedding reception its probably because its nearly the same thing. Only in a reception you dance 10 remixes of the chicken dance.
Hey, I hear if you beat the Haruhi game with perfect scores you get to dance to… Hare Hare Yukai!
When Manabi Straight first did their Music number in episode 11, I’m sure everyone thought about how similar it looked to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya’s performance. MAD has taken it one step farther with their dubbing over of the scene with the song from ENOZ, God Knows. So for this week’s OMB, I give you: Manabi Knows:

Going back on the Hare Hare Yukai from earlier, although this one is much less…manly… it nonetheless still retains its awesomeness. Ever wondered what would happen if the guys from Karateka were Aliens, Ghosts, or ESPers? well apparently they too, would dance…
Never underestimate the power of an otaku with sprites…

TheOtaku reports an article from the ANS stating “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” Won top prizes for “Best Movie/T.V. Series of the Year” and the “Radio Kansai Award” (related to Theme Song), at the 11th Animation Kobe award ceremony .
This anime is, as you can expect, a school comedy like Azumanga Daioh! or School Rumble. Both of these series have been great and we’ve cracked a lot of laughs in the meantime, and now, considering those awards, I guess this new series won’t stay behind for long in our comedy list! Good news because I was hesitating a bit about watching it or not.
