The Importance Placed On A First Impression: WIRED Manga Cover

While researching for a post, I came across an interesting concept to reality video. Back in 2007 WIRED had commissioned Yochiro Ono to create the cover design for their November issue. The concept was “Manga Conquers America”. Although it isn’t explicitly said, the evolutionary process highlights the importance placed on the cover design; the first impression. Similar to Bayonetta’s enemy creation, understanding all the elements of the design gives you a greater appreciation for the final product.

Proof Of Concept: Augmented Reality In Games

argumented-11

In more modified reality goodness, designer Frantz Lasorne has created an impressive proof of concept for his vision on the future of gaming. Using head-mounted glasses, a battle base with context sensitive markers, and some imagination; players can incorporate real world objects, such as RC cars, in the battlescape to achieve immersive game-play.

In the past augmented-reality applications have been plagued by processing power, feasibility for mass deployment and response time in displaying context markers, but new development in the area has begun in breakneck speed. More companies are placing funding in R&D as it is now very popular to have these display markers on products.

Video-game manufacturers, development studios, the military, and even entire companies are banking on the idea augmented reality will be the next step in the evolution of everyday living. My real question is: When I will I have my holodeck?
