Tekken 6 & Soul Calibur (kinda) IV for PSP

When it shits on Wii, it blasts out in a stream – just like diarrhea. Wii already missed out on Marvel VS Capcom 2 – which is bad enough given the console is actually powerful enough to run the game. Now it’s missing out on Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV. Sure, these games wouldn’t be able to run on Wii. But that didn’t stop Namco developing them for the PSP. Yes… Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV will be releasing for the PSP!!

Tekken 6 for PSP will just be the standard version of Tekken 6, and not the updated version: Bloodline rebellion which will release for consoles later this year. But the game will not be some badly cut down affair. It will feature the full Tekken 6 character roster, character customization, new items not featured in the arcade version of the game and ad-hoc play.

I lied a little when I said Soul Calibur IV was heading for PSP. The PSP soul game is titled Soul Calibur: Broken destiny. Not a direct port of Soul Calibur IV, but a game which will retain many of the gameplay elements of IV. Returning characters from IV will also have their IV move sets and costumes. The game will feature new game modes and also a couple of new characters. The only new character to be confirmed so far is Dampierre. Who looks like a money swindling, knife wielding gay pimp from a Dicken’s novel.

Namco may as well fly a blimp over Nintendo, Kyoto which reads “F**K Wii!” The Wii flogs more units than the PSP and is more powerful, yet loses out on 2 high profile, blockbuster beat ‘em ups to it! Looks like that PlayStation love still runs deep. Real deep.

PSP owners, rejoice! You just got a couple of good games to look forward to. I guess a Wii port wouldn’t be out of the question entirely. Namco Bandai could always just port the PSP version. It’s not like the Wii version would look THAT much better. (Tee-hee!)

1st Impressions: Street Fighter IV

[Dark diamond] 1st impressions: Street Fighter IV

I actually got a chance to play this game back in October at an expo in the UK. But having gone to Japan last month, I got several chances to get hands on with Street Fighter IV and kick some challengers arses in the process, which was largely gratifying.

Fei-Long, Gen, Cammy & Dan in Action

Capcom’s worst kept secrets regarding Fei Long, Cammy and Dan appearing in the home conversions of Street Fighter IV have finally been shown in-game!

Fei Long in Street Fighter IV Gen in Street Fighter IVCammy in Street Fighter IV Dan in Street Fighter IV

They all look really cool! It’s gonna be great seeing these guys (and girl) brought to life in 3D. No doubt the dynamic camera during super combo’s will ensure the floss shots of Cammy are as violating as possible. The greedy bastard in me wishes Capcom added a couple more characters, but that’s only because I’m so in love with this game and just always want more of a good thing. With that said, Capcom could still add more characters. They kept Gen on the down low pretty well. I can’t wait to see what other goodies Capcom throw into this game. As is, it’s looking like a winner. But you can bet Capcom will include some other stuff they’ve yet to disclose. The best Street Fighter game yet? It’s well on its way…

Kick ass Street Fighter IV anime sequences

After 10 years of Street Fighter intro and ending sequences consisting of gif images that slide across the screen, it’s great that Capcom finally decided to grace us with animated sequences. Nobody looks to Street Fighter for its story, but it’s good to finally have a game with a stronger narrative that everybody can follow. It’s a shame we didn’t get Chun-Li sporting the un-bunned hair, wife beater and denim hot pant combo that she rocked in her Street Fighter II ending on the SNES version. But I guess waistcoat, skinny jean, Chuck Taylor wearing Chun-Li will do for now. Fans of ‘Chun-Li’s titties in the shower’ scene from Super Street Fighter II: The animated movie can do away with their wishful thinking of that scene getting re-created for Street Fighter IV. It ain’t happening.

One thing got me though. Why does Guile’s wife look like a man? I thought it was Ken at first and that Capcom were throwing a gay relationship into the mix. Well…people have argued for years Ryu and Ken have never had eyes for anybody else but one another. But to have an all American man like Guile embark on a relationship with Ken would be a curveball to say the least!

Street Fighter IV doesn’t have a console release date as of yet, but this anime video shows Capcom are well into production and that Cammy is a dead cert. Other console exclusive characters include Dan and Fei-Long, with the possibility of other characters from the Alpha and III series’ making appearances. I’m all for Sakura and Ibuki.

Tekkaman and Batsu for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Tekkaman and Batsu

Alongside the initial four (Ryu, Chun-Li, Casshern and Gatchaman) we now have Tekkaman: The space knight and Rival schools’ Batsu thrown into the mix!

I’m all for Batsu’s inclusion, as I was a big Rival schools fan. I’m hoping he has a super attack whereby he calls on classmates Hinata and Kyosuke to beatdown the opposition. Tekkaman looks really cool, but I’m hoping the final Tatsunoko roster are more varied in appearance. The 3 we’ve seen so far all have a penchant for white spandex and could easily be mistaken for coming from the same show. I guess that’s Japanese daytime anime’s from the 1980’s for you though. White spandex and visors were all the rage for heroes in those days.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom looks like it’s shaping up to be a great game. I can’t wait to see which Capcom characters make the cut and how big the final roster will end up. If Capcom’s recent string of original and successful titles are anything to go by, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom should be one to look out for. If this gets a console release, with some online play – I’ll be buying for sure.

I just love how Capcom’s throwing it back and having the classic beat ‘em up make a comeback.

Soul Calibur IV: Transcendence trailer

As the trailer showed, breakable armour has been brought to the Soul arena! It’s nothing new, because many fighting fans (Sega ones in particular) will recall Fighting Vipers featuring breakable armour and that was released well over 10 years ago. Plus, characters could be placed at a defence disadvantage by being disarmed in Soul blade. But none the less it’s a cool new addition that will change the flow of fights greatly. The armour system works in the exact same way it did in Fighting vipers: with a character able to lose armour from their top, midriff or lower part of their body and their defence dropping as a result. I’m such a picky bastard that I hope the armour stays on the floor when it’s broken off. None of this disappearing into thin air bullshit. This game is rolling on PS3 and Xbox 360 – it better make use of that extra processing power.

As one of the earlier trailers showed, characters will have critical finishers. If a characters soul gauge gets depleted twice, then they’ll be open to get critical finished like a silly sucka. As if ring outs and after K.O grapples weren’t humiliating enough – you can add critical finishers to the list. I can’t wait to see them all. If Seigfried’s Ice slash, Ivy’s alchemist sword blade rape, Voldo’s sex rolly polly bomb and Kilik’s Phoenix smash (these are not official attack names) are anything to go by, you know they’re going to be over the top, razzle dazzle, pyrotechnic laden smackdowns.

I wasn’t really wowed by this game before, but it impresses me more with each new trailer that gets put out. If Namco really fine tune the characters and give the game some substantial game modes – this could be something special. The jury will be out until this game releases on whether this can better the original Soul Calibur on Dreamcast. Perhaps third time will be the charm…

Watch how Yoda rolls in Soul Calibur IV

We’ve already seen Darth Vader in action. Now we gets to see Yoda…

That’s my man right there. Darth Vader looked boring, Yoda looks fun. I could imagine him being a right bastard to fight against though. He’s so small that most attacks will probably go straight over his little green peanut head. It’s going to be interesting to see how throw and grapple animations look on Yoda. He’s of a completely different stature to the rest of the cast – so one does wonder.

If I had to choose between the PS3 and Xbox 360 version, I’d go for the 360. Yoda all the way!

New Soul Calibur IV ladies

Soul Calibur IV: Ashlotte, Shura & Setsuka

Namco have unveiled 2 brand new characters for their forthcoming Soul title: Goth lolita inspired robot girl Ashlotte and dual Katana wielding beauty Shura, as well as revealing the new look for Soul Calibur III’s Setsuka. It seems big breasts are the watch word for the ladies of Soul Calibur, more so in installment number 4 than ever. Setsuka’s rack has been upgraded to drastic levels just like Ivy’s were and Shura has a big old rack too. Ashlotte’s are quite small and modest, but she is an android and a young one at that. Not that this would stop Namco mind you. They had no qualms about having Xianghua’s big ol’ teenage rack swinging around in Soul Calibur 1.

I’m loving the dual katana wielding chick. Easily one of the best looking new characters so far. It’s probably because she reminds me so much of Taki, who has been my fave character in the Soul series since Soul blade. And also because she reminds me of Psylocke from X-Men – who I’ve always liked and favoured in the Capcom games she featured in.

The character models on the ladies look great (as always), but I still have a nagging issue with the girls all having the same big eyes, round face and zero ethnicity. Setsuka looks like a white woman and not Japanese at all. Shura is the only character I’ve seen in this game with some ethnicity to her facial features. She looks more like Taki than Taki herself because of it.

It’s look as though Soul Calibur IV will have the biggest character roster of them all, which is great. But I just hope Namco balances them all correctly and has them all fight uniquely – because many of the new characters share similar weapons and look to have similar disciplines to the veterans.

3 (not) new faces to Soul Calibur IV

Seong, Max & Yun

Namco have revealed the new(ish) looks and character models for Soul Calibur veterans Seong Mi-Na, Maxi and Yun-Seong.

Seong Mi-Na is asking for a wardrobe malfunction in that outfit, Yun-Seong has me jealous of his 6-pack and if Maxi is made to look anymore like Elvis Namco are going to have to pay the Presley estate some royalties.

Check out high quality images of how the trio look in game below…

Street Fighter IV: The world warriors return

Screenshots of some of our fave Street Fighters have hit the web courtesy of Famitsu. Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Guile and Zangief have all had their Street Fighter IV models shown off. This lot were confirmed from the very start. But seeing the characters in-game sets minds to rest about Capcom doing a Street Fighter III and scrapping 90% of the cast in favour of a new bunch.

Street Fighter IV - Blanka Street Fighter IV - Chun-Li Street Fighter IV - Dhalsim Street Fighter IV - E. Hond Street Fighter IV - Guile Street Fighter IV - Zangief

Blanka and Zangief’s models looks awesome, but the rest look iffy to me. Chun-Li looks badly proportioned, as does Guile. Dhalsim looks like a rubber toy (intentional?) and E. Honda’s gut looks funny. Like Capcom weren’t sure whether to make it a 6 put, or a beer keg gut. Chun-Li gets let off the hook because her classic Super Street Fighter II ’stick the booty out’ Kioken pose is back in full effect.

I’m still not completely sold on this game being in 3D. I can’t help but be reminded of the blandness of Street Fighter EX 2 and 3, despite them not being developed by Capcom themselves. But if IV plays well, then it’s all good.  It’ll be interesting to see which other familiar faces will return and how the new ones will look, and also if the game will appear on Wii – there is no question that the Xbox 360 and PS3 are dead certs for getting this game. I’ve been shot down many times for even so much as hinting that this game could possibly run on Wii. But I still don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility. Graphically this game looks good, but it’s no Soul Calibur IV or Virtua Fighter 5 and doesn’t look that amazing.

Check out the link below to see more shots of the Street Fighter II veterans in action and also the new girl Crimson Viper going at it.
