Welcome to the second installment of ‘Figure Review from a Hikikomori’. This week, I review a newly obtained piece that I have been waiting to hear about for roughly half a year, and luckily secured an order for. This piece was crafted by the wonderful folks at Max Factory, and weirdly seems to be an out of character expression for this character.
lol out of context
Yuukanaria hails from a series called ‘Kikou Majutsushi -enchanter-’. The story revolves around Haruhiko and his encounter with Yuukanaria, and their adventures together. She was searching for Fulcanelli, and found Haruhiko, and is constantly trying to get him to let her use his body as a host for Fulcanelli’s soul, which she has in a gemstone necklace. There are many enemies after his soul as well, which holds great power. During an encounter with a demon after his soul, Fulcanelli lends Haruhiko some of his power to fend it off. The story continues on as they meet Paracelsus, a physician, and lots of other colorful characters on their adventures.
From a first glance, this figure is nicely put together, given the complexity of what this figure was sculpted to depict. The 6476 yen price tag, roughly $55, seem more than reasonable, as she is a 1/6th scale figure. Being a mid-air depiction, the means to keep her propped up don’t draw attention away from her overall appearance. The company that released her, Max Factory, has a bunch of other very nice releases, a few of which I own. She takes up around 6 or 7 inches lengthwise for her base, and around 8 or 9 inches including her wings vertically.
Taking a closer look, there seems to be next to no paint overlap, except within small spots in the briefcase. The paint job on this piece is simply fantastic, even compared to Alter’s figures, which are on the high-end of quality. The shading used on the hair is also a nice touch. Even the detail used on the books, including the print in the green book, is very amusing and adds to the overall quality of this figure. Needless to mention of course is the high-quality panty-shot on the figure. Her expression seems out of character, although the scene being depicted is unknown to me at the moment.
The printing on the book itself looks to have been printed or ironed on. Aside from it being complete magical gibberish, it’s completely legible, though very tiny like the fine print which should be illegal anyway. The question mark at the end of the passage in the book itself suggests I should take the time to read and type out the words and have someone translate. Maybe it is a gigantic in joke.
Hobbylink’s page for this figure has a few shots of her as well, although unfortunately this figure is discontinued. As is with a lot of popular things, you gotta get the preorder or order right after release.
Stay tuned for next week’s review. Apparently I did pick something sexy like I had suggested last week. Hahaha panties.
Rants (Now with 92% more relevance!):
I managed to break the peg for the purple piece the wings are attached to, which attaches into the figure’s back. So I had to do an emergency glue job. I found a position for her finally so it could dry nicely, and this was the way I set her up to dry:
Her butt was acting like a pivot point, thus the book on her foot.
Only now did it I realize that this is not only the highest quality photo I have taken yet, but it’s a pretty funny situation. Funny, or however you choose to respond to it. Also: Pantsu Damon~
