Finally, a top tier in the Comedy section has ended. Seto no Hanayome brings us the same Boy-Girl formula but with elements that make it trascend and make any of its viewers have a great time, whether you like comedy, romance, or shounen-type separately.

Made in 2007 by renowned Studio Gonzo x AIC, character design by Morita Kazuaki, this show falls into the following categories: Romance, School Life, Comedy, Parody, and Action.

STORY:

We start the story with Nagasumi, the main male of the story, who starts drowning at the beach. Suddenly he is rescued by a mermaid! Unfortunately for him, if a human is saved by a mermaid-men, they have to either A) Kill him/her or B) Marry someone from the clan. He accepts to marry San, the heroine. Then there’s San’s family who opposes to the marriage and will do whatever to make their lives together a fiasco. Nagasumi is alive, but at what cost?!

GRAPHICS:

As strange as it may sound, Nagasumi has rectangle-shaped eyes, not the fluffy, round ones or the small, sleek ones. Character design seems original enough, considering the black Japanese uniforms and the so-loved mini skirts when going to class. Please, if you know of any Japanese school that allows skirts that short, give me a call, I’ll be there right away (Just to live the moment, ya know? >>;)

SOUND & MUSIC:

The OP song: SUN & LUNAR?Romantic summer?starts with some mellow melodies and effects, depicting that, in the end, it is a romance anime after all. Then suddenly it goes to some kind of beach-rock-J-pop-rururururu that gives you an idea of how it’s gonna be from there on.

The ending songs, “Ashita e no Hikari” by Asuka Hinoi” and “Dan Dan Dan” by SUN&LUNAR (eps 14+) are full of energy, enough to make you wanna shake your arms while hearing them, which, as you may notice, is a weird sight for an anime ED song.

OVERALL:

A great show that makes its flaws (like cliche’d story and characters) into power-ups, boosting through these 26 episodes of serious, serious fun, starting with an excellent voice acting, to the faintest of sound effects, almost anything can make you laugh.

STORY:9/10

GRAPHICS: 9/10

SOUND & MUSIC:8/10

OVERALL:

9/10 Diamonds. Awesome!
