I’m no mecha or airplane freak myself, but this anime really gave me something interesting, well-drawn, and action-packed to watch this last month. See for yourself!

As expected from studio GONZO (G. Animation), who have brought us great animation like Hellsing, Gantz, and Gankutsuou among many above average series, Yukikaze pierces throught the almost politically perfect anime style with a lot of action, AI and friendship values (?), making it much more entertaining than you’d think!.

The genre should be : Mecha (airplanes), Political, Sci-Fi, with a little touch of Drama (Might better be Novel…)

STORY

In the future, when Airplanes do way cooler stuff than the Blue Angels‘ show, there is an important change in the world’s panorama: A huge cylinder appeared, and happens to be a portal to another dimension. Fukai Zero was commanded to board Yukikaze and just get info on the alien race. Everything was fine until the other dudes started lookin’ for some trouble

GRAPHICS

The character design is more real than an awful lot of anime shows out there. With exception of the main guy, all the others are un their late 20′s which makes it appear that they really STUDIED and BROKE A SWEAT to have the job they have, unlike Full Metal Panic!, which manages prodigie, compatibilities and all that waka-laka nonsense.

The airplanes are very well done / animated and the explosions are REALLY something.

SOUND & MUSIC

The music is not very prominent here. . . it has some piano songs for the calm / talking parts, and some merry songs for the ED song, but kinda average. The SFX are another thing, explosions, gunshots and “air” sounds are great.

OVERALL

A great series that, altough starting slow, delivers an excellent amount of awe-inducing flight scenes. Add to that great quality in animation and you’re all set for a nice weekend (or month if you’re like me. . .).
