It had been a very very long time since I watched a “moe” anime. . . and I think I hit the spot on finding one of the most honey-drenched, abyssmal-plotted, ridiculous-love relations anime on the list. . .Rizelmine. Here’s what I think. . .

This 15 minute-24 episode anime was made in 2002 by Studio M.O.E. (Masters of Entertainment . . . [I didn’t make this up. . .really![) and with character designs by Miwa Oshima (Cosplayers, and Love Love ?) this is a One-way ride to a Honey pot.

GENRE: It should be Magical Girls (although the girl is an android, but has the outfit of one. . .), School (kinda), ecchi, and Love-Romance.

STORY

Tomonori Iwaki is an average Jr. High Student who has a crush on his teacher, since he has a thing for older women. Then one of those days a 12- year old girl self-proclamed as Tomonori’s wife starts to live there, and thanks to some Government “facilitations”, Tomonori’s parents agree that Rizelmine should be his wife. But Tomonori has a thing for older women. . .and that’s where the fun starts.

GRAPHICS

I happened to watch this and saw a lot of jaggies, on the characters, might be because 90% of the animation was done by computer or something like that, but overall, the colors are bright and rich, character designs are mediocre (plain, seldom shadows, cloth bendings close to none, etc.), but obviously you’re not watching this with the eye of the Hellsing OVA or Sentou Yuusei Yukikaze. . .you’re watching this for the more more and the huge amounts of pantyshots and sexual innuendo.

SOUND & MUSIC

The music is really something to this series: It’s catchy, it’s cute bossa-nova (kinda), and is sung by a girl that squeals like Under17. The opening song “Hajimete Shimashoo” (Let’s do it for the first time) by Rie Kugimiya, is filled with lovey-dovey lyrics that make you go moe~ everythime you watch it (I only watched it in the 1st and last eps, I couldn’t stand all that honey inside my veins!) . This girl is a seiyuu that has done a wide variety of roles, from Touko Matsudara in Kannazuki no Miko to Alphonse Elric in Full Metal Alchemist. Cool. The 2 endings of the series are also sung by her.

OVERALL

A so-so series that starts very dull and gets EXPONENTIALLY more interesting in the “2nd” season (after ep 12). It has a vast amount of sexual innuendo, double meanings, and panty shots. . .Along with one of the most depressing love pentagons I’ve seen in anime. (Hint : wan! wan!).

Due to the rush-friendly duration of every episode, I watched it everytime I ate at home and was pretty pleased with having finished it. SO if you are into moe~ and romance bla bla bla, check this out!
