Pugyuru! – An Overall Review -

Welcome to the world of Pugyuru! We have cute girls, also octopus girls, and even a chibi-robot-blob maid. . .thingie. A normal series with really cool ideas that could be better done if they had enough money; nevertheless this anime makes it clear that if you have a nice idea, a good team and some money, you can make your own anime for the fun of it!

This anime aired on April 12, 2004 in Japan. Made by Studio Creators Dot Com, there were 13 episodes, each lasting around 3 minutes if you take out the OP and ED songs. As the genre is Comedy and School Life, I expected each episode with 1 or 2 jokes from the source of the anime, a 4-panel comic by the author Tohiro Konno, and I was right.

STORY:

Ma. . .(the name never gets completely said) is a normal schoolgirl in Japan. Suddenly, a weird thing comes from the sky! Oh the originality! To her surprise (and mine as well, but not as much as graphically expressed by the schoolgirl) that thing is a maid named Cheko, and comes from the world of maids, and somehow she starts living with Ma… Then it’s all the ruckus that this series has to offer.

GRAPHICS:

No. I’m sorry to say this, but for the first time I’m going to say that graphics CAN and WOULD have helped this series. This is what I see, a lot of effort trying to express something, like a cliche’ d surprised face or a ZOMG moment, but the studio can’t quite nail it. I guess they gotta practice some more, and could get better results.

SOUND & MUSIC:

As impressive as it sounds, Chrono Trigger’s composer Yasunori Mitsuda was in charge of the music of this series but, I don’t know. . . the OST was far from memorable, and even the OP and ED songs are crappy. At most the ED song could be somewhat rescue-able but. . . no.

OVERALL:

45 minutes is all this series will take from you if you decide to give it a try. If you have them, you’ll be rewarded by sexy bat-licking girl. Yumm..

Graphics looks like they are from some underfunded early 90s anime

if you can destroy the low-budget barrier maybe you’ll wanna give it a try. . .you know. . . to make a new low. . .etc. :p
