Ouran High School Host Club – an Overall Review -

This is my first experience with a comedy anime that innovates an old concept: the Harem Anime. It featuers the REVERSE Harem; that means a girl that is surrounded by pretty boys, each with unique characteristics that appeal to a bigger viewing market, add to that some comedy, and BAM! Success. And look!! There’s a Nintendo GBA SP, what else can you ask for? *hint hint*
Now here’s what I think of it: (after the jump.)
STORY
It happens that our protagonist, a girl named Haruhi, enters a new High School, abd upon researching and getting to know all the rooms, she stumbles upon the 3rd Music Room, which is currently used by the Ouran Host Club, who make use of their free time to give pleasure to women. (Think of it like Male-Geishas). After a little incident, Haruhi is to stay in that club, but they still don’t know she’s a Woman!
GRAPHICS
This is new animation so I don’t really see flaws with the animation sequences. Since this is a shoujo manga, the characters have shoujo eyes, that means: BIG, DETAILED, and WEEPY.The chars don’t move really really much, but when there’s movement, it’s done very well. It uses pretty bright colors: Blue for male uniforms/jackets and YELLOW dresses for girls. I already want to go to that school.
SOUND & MUSIC
The intro song is pretty catchy, hip, and gets the audience (mainly girls): A female singer in a punk band talking about love and shit [figurativeley speaking, of course!]. And as a curious fact, this is one of those anime’s that have a livelier ED song than the OP song. Since the place where the plot takes place is a high-class school, expect a lot of violins, harpsichords and string quartetts as the BGM. Quite enjoyable, but never as structured and interesting as Maria-Sama Ga Miteru.
OVERALL
A very enjoyable comedy anime that attracts since the first episode and keeps you linked until the last minute. The characters really KNOW their roles. The music for the series is somewhat varied and fits the scenarios given. The voice acting is pretty good and you get used to them very easily; And you just can’t go wrong with pseudo-gay comedy bursting on the screen every minute. Definitely Worth A Watch.
