Otaku No Video – An Overall Review -

I still can’t beleive I hadn’t seen this wonderful masterpiece of animation until today, considering it states a lot of must-knows for the anime-loving people, as well as some interesting facts that enveil this historical culture penetration to the world. Take your most anime’d stuff you have and read this.
This is animation greatly done by Studio Gainax, obviously well known by Evangelion, Princess Maker (game) and the short DAICON IV clips, among many others.
STORY
Tanaka is a healthy average Joe: he does sports, has a girlfriend, and seems to be doing fine. His life takes a turn when he finds Kubo, an old friend, who persuades him to be enveiled by the world of anime and manga; then the adventure starts.
GRAPHICS
This is animation from 1991, which is clean, simple and straight to the point. It has some special effects but not something you’d say a “signature move”, since this is a documentary/story about regular guys (Supposedly the story of how Gainax started), not sci-fi explosion stuff.
SOUND & MUSIC
It’s cool 80’s anime music. The OP song is full of “fight!” lyrics and Hironobu Kageyama style of singing. The ED. is more calm as is custom and a nice touch to the story. The BGM’s are well present and fit scenery very well.
OVERALL
YOU MUST NOT MISS THIS! A good Story, good animation, music, and information about our wacky neighbors across the sea.
