First Look : Slayers Revolution.

What’s this you ask? Another season of Slayers? You darn bet it is!

Following the success of previous three TV series, including several OVAs and movies, Lina Inverse, legendary flat-chested sorceress, dragon spooker and bandit killer returns again for a fourth season installment of Slayers, aka Slayers Revolution.

No bust LOL

For those who are familiar with the series’ wacky hijinks, comedy and action, I have to say that the first episode will definitely not disappoint you. For first time viewers of this series, it would be safe to say that you could watch it without watching the first 3 seasons, but there may be references in the future (there are already some in the first episode when one of the bad guys mentioned some of Lina’s “feats”) that you might not get, but there’s always Wikipedia for that.

Xellos looks as evil as ever.

The very first thing that you will realize when you first watch this episode is that the animation has gone through some very drastic improvements. While the look and feel of the characters all remain the same, the action scenes look more fluid and vibrant than the first 3 seasons. Though I have to say I’m a bit disappointed with the Dragon Slave at the end of the episode as it looks like an oversized Fire Ball.

Improved Fireball

While some things might have changed, a lot of elements that made Slayers an enjoyable series so many years ago are retained as well. Some of these include :

1. Megumi Hayashibara retains her role as Lina Inverse and also sings for the OP and ED of the new series.

2. The rest of the original cast of Slayers (well, at least the main 5 characters) are also retained.

3. The series, judging by the first episode, looks like it will be as wacky and as crazy as the previous 3 seasons.

The gang up to its usual wacky hijinks.

If I had anything to pick at, it would be having J.C. Staff at the helm of this show. I’m considerably worried, considering what they did with Zero no Tsukaima 2 (almost zero character development crappy pacing, deus ex ending), but I hope that my worries are unjustified.

Obligatory city destroyed by Dragon Slave image.

All in all, it was a pretty good and solid first episode, though that last part just peeved me a little bit (not gonna tell, you’re going to have to watch it for yourselves). Looking forward to seeing Lina casting Ragna Blade and/or Giga Slave in this series, if ever.

Now, come on! How can you call that evil? Poor graphics is not my fault! I have specified outlooking with and without opened eyes, therefore I would never look this stupid! The REvolution-R series is a FAKE, of course not everywhere, but in actions of me, Shabranigdo-san and graphics.
