Friday 18 July 2008 @ 11:40 am | By Ivan 'Nahu' Lozano 7 CommentsHi there, you seem to be new here! Here at Dark Diamond we frequently update with news about video games, anime, Japan and other cool stuff. Head on over to our homepage or go ahead and subscribe to get updates! Enjoy!
Its finally happened, someone left the microphones unchecked and we got to make a podcast. Oh boy, someone’s gonna get fired! This is a pilot episode we recorded yesterday on July 17, in it you can listen to our awkward geek voice and funny accents as we discuss E3, some anime and dispute Miyamoto’s sanity.
The episode runs 62 minutes and 25 seconds, so you can laugh at our awkwardness and self-righteous opinions while washing your car, doing the dishes or grinding away at your favorite MMO. Hell, put it on your MP3 player when you go jogging! People will beging to wonder why you keep on facepalming for a complete hour!
Show Outline:
- Introductions
- The big 3 conferences:
- Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony
- Best games of the show
- The future of DDN
- Anime picks
If you like it, please let us know and we’ll make more! If you didn’t, we promise never to touch a microphone ever again!

Damn I had fun doing this. I was really fucking nervous and I bet my voice sounds stupid. ;_;
This is a lot better than most gaming podcasts I’ve heard. Nice pacing, and the music wasn’t annoying.
Decent podcast.
Starts off a bit shakey (probably because it’s your first time talking to each other) but then it quickly gets stable without all the pauses and “um”s.
Better than 99% of the “gamer” podcasts you can find.
I enjoyed it.
I hope I can be in the podcast the next time around.
Cool!!! :D
Congratulations on the first podcast! Once you guys got the jitters out the flow became more natural. You guys cover a range of subjects and I like the brief talk of anime and upcoming things on the site. For the pilot episode a very strong beginning.
Now because I care and I know you guys want to improve and I am more than willing to help out with audio or podcast development. Anything like that, you can email me: dark diamond network [at] gmail (all one word).
Some suggestions: I’m not sure how you guys recorded the audio, but I got the impression it was a conference call/speaker phone. I had a hard time hearing Quiche. It may be his manly voice, but I think having separate audio tracks for each member (unless they are in the same room) can vastly improve the audio quality since you can tweak things like the reverb, treble and bass. You can still do the speaker call, but if you record each voice you can lie down tracks individually. Mics are inexpensive, but I believe you can plug-in Xbox headsets to your computer to record your voice and if you are using a cellphone for the call, plug-in an earpiece to hear the other members. For Wii/Xbox owners Boogie’s usb mic or Rockband’s mic can do the same thing. I know you’d look like a dufus with a bunch or wires out your ears, but it is an inexpensive way to accomplish the desired effect. A number of programs can be used for laying audio, Fruity Loops, Sound Forge, GarageBand to name a few.
I think there are some minor things that you can do to have a more polished feel such as fade-ins/out.
I like the musical range found in the background. I was able to pick out a lot of songs I know. What I think would be a great addition to the podcast is to provide a tracklist/playlist. This allows people to see your musical taste and find those tracks they want. Along with track listings providing “talking points” of your notes can be a great way for the listener to refer back to a particular segment of a podcast without having to listen to the whole thing again. These can be scans or just bullets points so readers can follow through. I know you did the show outline, but I mean games mentioned; something a more robust . Not transcripts or anything just something that I could refer to when you say “this is cool check it out”, I can just copy and paste later if I am listening to your cast in my car or a place where internet is not readily accessible. This can be embedded in the mp3 or pdf download.
Just something to consider, when more podcasts are available or you start doing these more frequently iTunes can provide some great exposure.
I know this may seem like a tall order, but I think you got something good going on here and would love to hear/see more of it. I thought the one minute video review was awesome and I am getting around to watching/ reading more of Taco’s anime previews.
It was great awesome and I have nothing but atta-boys and kudos. I can’t stress it enough. I’d be more than willing to help, just shoot me an email or anyone else for that matter. If you can’t tell it is DDN specific so anyone that sends me a message I’d see here.
Hope it wasn’t long winded. GO DDN!
Sent you an email Sol!
