Retro Video – Secret of Mana -
Monday 26 March 2007 @ 5:04 pm | By Abraham 'Velcor' Duarte 2 CommentsMonday again, and time for another moment of mostly pixelated nostalgia; the title for today? Seiken Densetsu II, or the way we know it in America and Europe, Secret of Mana.
Made by Squaresoft back in the good old Snes era, this 2d game with excellent graphics, story, and a unique OST by Hiroki Kikuta reunite to make one of the most awesome games ever made. The party you have is balanced, the main char being a knight, then the other two are a magician and a sprite, each with their stack of weapons and spells to aid you with. An awesome thing is that, since the battles are not turn based, but in real time, a 2P can join the fight anytime and help around, it doesn’t matter who you want, just press Select to swap characters! Another great idea from these guys at Squaresoft.
Another interesting note from this game is that it used the Super Nintendo’s Mode 7 to generate a huge world map where you could fly over on top of Flamie, one of the most memorable dragons of the Snes. And by the way, it’s the same method for making the F-Zero tracks.
Now, the first video is a German ad for the game, with original caricatures and all. Would’ve loved to see a series of it.
Then it’s a short video showing the first five minutes of the game, just to make you weep on nostalgia alone.

i love this game
Best memory of my childhood.
I hope that when it comes out on Wii VC (here’s hoping!), I’ll get to show it’s 3-player goodness to a new generation of gamers… legally! ;)
