Hip Eye For The Otaku Guy: Even You, Could Be A Fashionable Trend Setter, Without Trying!

Hey all, I’m back from a long hiatus, and I cannot express how overjoyed I am at being back on the DDN crew. For my first post in a long time, I think I’m going to touch on a subject that I’ve been thinking about in my free time.

hip-eye

With movies being made using various series, and people getting more exposure to it due to the Internet, anime could quite possibly be the next big thing. Well not “American Idol” or “24″ big, but lately I’ve been running into more and more people who are fans of anime, or at least accept it, when back in high school, I was made fun of for liking it. When I read “Newtype” in free time in class, people would think I was looking at a porn magazine, I was called a nerd.

Nowadays its an acceptable hobby, people that you’d have never thought would like anime are watching it now and more people are playing video games with anime cut scenes or art.

A few years back one of my good friends bought an FLCL shirt, I saw it and told him that it was a really good show and that I didn’t know he liked it too. He stopped for a second looked at his shirt and said, “oh its from a show? I thought it was just a cool chick with a guitar!” After facepalming in my mind. I began to realize, that even if people don’t know what it’s from, it does look pretty damn cool.

Anime could become a huge fashion trend if just for the clothing, obviously depending on the show, and what’s on the shirt. Here are some examples of stylish anime-themed stuff to wear, there’s plenty out there if you know where to look. Cospa is a really good company, their products are of high quality, and are pretty cool too, all of the shirts below are from them.

LOOK AT THOSE SHIRTS, BOTH ARE BADASS WITHOUT KNOWING WHERE THEY CAME FROM. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF CLASSY, FASHIONABLE CLOTHING CHOICES.

Zip up hoodies and track jackets are in right now, so if you can combo up or have a few really nice jackets/hoodies to wear on top of your shirt, you look more like you want it to be fashion and less like just a dork. Anime can be fashionable, but its not there yet. This is a good hoodie that a good friend and former member of the ddn crew wore when we met earlier this year, and I thought it looked really cool, and wanted one myself.

I could go on and on but there are so many good choices out there. If you dont know where to start, go to a mall and look at the alternative clothing, the popular stuff that the trendy looking kids are wearing. Be careful of all-text shirts depending on what it says, none of that really girly stuff, no girls with big swords or anything, unless it looks really cool. Use common sense, mostly anime can be trendy if you buy the right stuff, if you want some style advice hit me up in the comments and I’ll be your anime fashion guru.

This might become a multi-part series if it gets good feedback, I’m not really a fashion guru, but I’ve been out on the scene enough that I know right from wrong. Let the hip eye for the otaku guy begin!

Did that really happen with FLCL? ~sigh~
Well, I love the tan Black Lagoon t-shit. Great shirt for a great anime!

If it matters to anyone else, HLJ (Hobby Link Japan) is a great place. I’ve ordered quite a few figures from there already =3

    Also, welcome back!

As much as I swear I wouldn’t ever be seen in public with an animu t-shirt, I’ve always had a soft spot for the shirt Ichigo wears in Bleach OP1.

Also, I realize that using Bleach as my example pretty much nullifies any validity my comment might have had, so I’ll go now.

Wow. I saw that two-hands shirt some time ago. I’m glad its finally in reach

I always wear anime shirts and get a lot of positive feedback from my peers in school. I live in New York City, so people are more open with these things, I guess.

And, being a Junior in high school, I’ve noticed there are a lot of freshmen in my school who are obsessed with anime o_o
