We previously covered the crowning of Miss MaxGames, a sort of queen of mobile gaming in Malaysia, and today we have for you an exclusive interview with Deborah Tan, Miss MaxGames. Find out what king of gamer is the queen of mobile gaming, her take on female gamers, casual games and even if she and the Maxgirls fight crime at night, awesome! Hit the jump for the interview!

How exactly did you end up being crowned Miss MaxGames?

First of course, was sending in my application form then going for an interview with Maxgames. I was really excited when they called! You can’t really tell whether someone is a real gamer by just an application form, right?

Then the selected 15 had to play a game called Antopia, and the ones with the 8 highest scores will proceed on. The 8 finalists then battle each other playing The Duel Online, a strategy game where each side has 12 pieces where one of it is chosen as the king. Each piece has its own colour; either blue, red or yellow. The blue piece defeats the yellow one, while the yellow one defeats the red and the red piece defeats the blue one. You win the battle by defeating your opponent’s king.

My first round was really tense, because I had to defeat her with only one piece left which was my king while she had 5 more pieces to go! But of course I defeated her in the end.

I battled out with another contestant and reached the final battle with Jenni. It was nerve-wrecking! It was a close game until the end when we both had our kings left. Her king was blue, and mine was yellow! She was getting closer and closer, but I placed a bomb on the spot in front of me. She stepped on it and I had won the battle!

Was it a sudden thing or had you been preparing for this event for a long time?

I had around one week to prepare myself by playing the games in my mobile because the games Antopia and The Duel Online were downloaded into our mobile phones during the interview which was around 7 days before the event.
What has it been like ever since you won, what are your duties as Miss MaxGames?

It has been great! I was given a huge cash prize and not forgetting my beloved spanking new PS3! I also have a one year contract now with Maxgames that comes with the title. When Maxgames has an event, the Maxgirls and I will show up. The previous one was a roadshow and we had so much fun! Other basic duties are blogging on the Miss Maxgames website and also playing with other players on The Duel Online. Can you imagine getting paid to blog, play games and promote gaming? A dream come true!
I heard you and the MaxGirls fight crime as a team of super heroines at night, is this true? And if not, why?

Hmm, I have heard of rumors about us but this really tops it all. The Maxgirls and I, fighting crime at night? I don’t know if that was in the contract…hehe! Why not? Because we don’t have webs shooting out from our wrists! We’re good with controllers, but not so much with flying or going invisible. I wish!

Besides mobile games how would you describe yourself as a gamer?
Well, I will say I’m an ancient gamer and quite a good one of course. I have a console from the 4th generation! (It still works!) I would also say that I am an addicted gamer. Video games are way longer than mobile games and it is really using up a lot of my life span. My favourites are RPGs, which makes things even worse because once I start I won’t stop until I complete something. Once, I played Legend of the Dragoon (PS1 game) non-stop until the end. It was a 4-disc game!
Any all time favorite game?

I love the Final Fantasy saga! Oh wait, I also love Gun Smoke but I don’t think anybody remembers this game.
This is the obligated token question, as a female gamer how has the community received you? Do you feel as if it has been an advantage or disadvantage?
Winning the title from a pageant-like event is hard as people think it was a scam or make up. However, I have prove myself a true gamer by the live competition and also making appearances on every gaming occasion in The Duel Online multiplayer game.

The mobile gaming scene is often seen as female dominated, and I know my girlfriend loves playing on her cellphone, but for the sake of challenging cliches, what is your take on this? Do you agree?

It is said that females have the higher portion of the mobile gaming ratio as seen through surveys done by mobile companies. More females are on their mobile most of the time compared to males but I wouldn’t agree completely because there are quite a number of guys playing on their mobiles as well. I sure you too play on your cell phone besides your girlfriend, right?
What are you playing nowadays, mobile or otherwise?

On my mobile, I’m playing The Duel Online. One of the terms is that I meet with other players every Saturday but I’m so addicted that I meet up with them every other night of the week! On my Nintendo DS, I’m playing Super Mario 64. While I play games such as Grand Theft Auto and Arc The Lad on my worn out PS2 which is now passed down to my brother since my PS3 arrived. Hehe!

Any future games you’re looking forward to?
Final Fantasy 13! I’ve seen the trailer and I’m hooked! Go on and watch it if you haven’t!
How much use has the PS3 you won been getting?
It is switched on almost everyday! It’s burning up. I’m currently playing ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ and can’t get it enough of it. It’s an FPS game with me gunning down genetically-altered creatures. Cool graphics. I usually play it with my brother cause I haven’t tried going online with it yet.

Any final thoughts?

As Miss Maxgames 2007, I would really wish to change people’s viewpoint on female gamers as well as promote mobile gaming to the community! I want to make the title of Miss Maxgames renown as a genuine female gamer for the years to come.

All of us here at Dark Diamond thank Deborah and the people at Maxgames for agreeing to this interview, it was a blast. Dont forget to check Deborah’s blog! What are your views on mobile gaming? What did you think of Miss Maxgames, let us know in the comments!
