Here’s a little something Velcor found today, but since he’s on assignment I’ll be the one posting it. Found on IIchan’s crossover board is this pretty damn cool Super Smash Brothers Brawl manga drawn in the famous style of Kohta Hirano, creator of Hellsing, its pretty badass.
Hirano is famous for his overtly dramatic, and quite surreal, poses along with chaos-loving monologues that just ooze out mettle! If this doesn’t pump up your blood for some SSBB or some mad vampire action then you just might be already dead, and not the cool un-dead king. Do you want more Machiavellian Mario? Check out the full doujinshi below.
Lets go, Gentlemen!
Somebody took their Honda and pimped it out - Mario stylee. I think this car looks ugly and is a complete mess, but the ghetto tackiness mesmerizes me and I actually love how f**ked up the car looks. The classy designer spared no part of the car. It’s Mario’d out from the front bumper, to the roof, right back to the trunk.

I would’ve gone one step further and had individual 20-inch rims resembling a gold coin, a fire flower, a mushroom and a star spinning in each wheel. Then I would’ve ran the tackiness into the ground by putting suicide doors on the car that rotate and had a PA system installed that plays the original NES rendition of the Super Mario Bros. theme whilst the car is in motion. If you’re going to be tacky, take it all the way and don’t look back is what I say.
You can check out more pictures of the car by heading to the link below.
Check out these wooden sculptures from Japan’s Wonderfestival, quite an elaborate way to put massive wood back into anime don’t you think? Gamersweb.it has more on these really quite beautiful pieces.

Students of Denmark’s IT University of Copenhagen recently threw a Mario-themed night at Scrollbar, their local bar. Many of them being Video Game majors they went as far as to create 10 drinks based off the Mario universe. Some of them cocktails, others shots but all of them look pretty cool, like the Bowser cocktail pictured above of which they say:
Bowser
Fiery red-yellow gradient drink… with some bite!
2 cl Tequila
1 cl Coin-treau
5 cl Orange juice
1 cl GrenadineDirections:
Stir first three ingredients, then drop in Grenadine for the gradient effect. Serve with ice in tall glass.Garnish:
Blood orange wedgeNotes:
Modified ‘Tequila Sunrise’ - the Cointreau adds a nice twist.
Do geeks know how to party or what? Check out the link of their whole menu, see more pictures of the event and even download some stencils to make your own Mario decorations.

Its time for one of those things that’s perfectly normal in Japanese culture yet incredibly wrong in western culture, western Internet culture at least. This bear shaped whistle and LED flashlight is supposed to help kids call for help in case of molestation but to the trained eye this will only look like one more of pedobears clever tactics. I wonder if this really calls for help or for pedobear to show up, perish the thought, no loli is safe in Japan anymore.

In light of me posting an in depth interview with Nobuo Uematsu, it’s only fair that I honor him for today’s Sound test Saturday.
Final Fantasy VIII was a pretty weak soundtrack in my opinion. There were probably only 3 pieces from it that stood out, one of them being “Liberi Fatali”. I would’ve posted that tonight, only Uematsu wasn’t responsible for it and I wanted to honor him this evening.
I’ve decided to post “The legendary beast”. For years I thought this was from Final Fantasy VII and even posted that it was until Dark Diamond regular Link pointed out to me that this piece was indeed from Final Fantasy VIII. So excuse the mishap and my lack of knowledge regarding shit such as which game this piece was from. Even now I cannot remember what you fight when you hear this piece. I just remembering it moving me and thinking to myself “Shit! I cannot f**k up…” The Final Fantasy fans amongst you with better memories than mine: Please enlighten me as to what you had to fight when this played. I cannot remember for shit.
As hot as this piece sounds as it is, I’d love to hear this orchestrated live. That would most definitely rock…

1up conducted an interview with one of the most famous video game composers of our generation: Nobuo Uematsu. This dude needs no introduction. He is kick arse. I can’t even diss his socks and Crocs combo in the image above, because he’s just that kick arse. The interview is probably one of the most in depth I’ve read. Nobuo seems at complete ease, enjoys answering the questions and recalling his life at Square. He also doesn’t seem to hold anything back and is incredibly candid. Highlights for me are Nobuo speaking on:
- How he feels Square are taking advantage of him by milking his compositions even though he no longer works for the company.
- Square Enix releasing too many Final Fantasy games.
- The reason he left Square.
- That Square shouldn’t have continued to make Final Fantasy games after Sakaguchi left the company.
He is never bitter though and seems fully contented and happy with his earlier days at Square.
The interview is incredibly long, but very insightful and worth checking out from start to finish. If you’re into video game music, an aspiring composer or just a fan of Uematsu’s in general - you’ll thoroughly enjoy this. I have to confess to having caught onto Uemtasu and the Final Fantasy bandwagon late with game VII, but I immediately latched onto the music, loved it to pieces and quickly became a fan of Uematsu’s work from there on out.
Check it out: James Mielke’s interview with Nobuo Uemtasu
Because of gamevideo.com’s terrible movie players, none of the videos can play for more than 10 seconds without freezing and re-buffering. The whole interview has been transcribed so you can read it all if the the videos mess up on you. But if your not a big fan of reading through 8 pages of text and would prefer to see Uematsu-san kicking it in all his awesomeness, the videos are after the jump.
Throw a pretty young princess in a game with a large fluttering skirt and a snapshot feature and this is what happens: A slew of Princess Peach panty shots. Don’t try clicking the images. There is no click to enlarge feature.

Even with her skirt a flutter and her panties on full display, Peach manages to stay classy and dignified - which is more than what can be said for Britney Spears.

Holy awful franchise choices, batman! Hollywood reporter is… well reporting, on Warner Bros. and Appian Way’s (Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company) plans to take the anime and manga epic Akira to the silver screen.
Does it hurt yet? Well let me put some salt on that wound, they plan two make 2 movies out of the franchise. Ruairi Robinson is directing the film and no he hasn’t directed anything you probably saw. The adaptation is being written by Gary Whitta and he has already made such adapting decisions like renaming Neo Tokyo for New Manhattan, a city destroyed 20 years ago and rebuilt by Japanese money. New Manhattan, while you let that one sink in let me tell you the tentative release season is summer 2009 for the first movie.
You know, when you think about it, its the perfect time for a project like this, Tetsuo is angsty, filled with issues, heartbroken and mad with power, the only way the emo crowd wont jump on this is if they finally got the courage to off themselves. But anyway, with the Dragon Ball movie well underway I’m not feeling particularly bad about this one, the lesser of two evils I guess. I’m just wondering if we’ll get a giant CGI manbaby or not.

I have been saving this one for weeks! As we all know China is the pinnacle of innovation, technology, originality, and hard labor. . .well, that statement is true, just in the hard labor area. Great, vast factories roam the land to give “paying” jobs to the people, and bikes are almost up to par with the human population of China. Don’t we all check under our toys and find the Made in China text under almost 90% of them? Oh yeah, you’ve checked. But we, people from the net, even in our vast knowledge of the originality of a product when we see one, may be fooled by these Oriental magic artifacts of cheapness and copyright infringement I’ll present to you after the break. . .

China hard on war of consoles. Clones Wii and PS3. Suck hard-time.
Honey & Clover is a currently airing drama in Japan, based on Chika Umino’s manga of the same name. It centers around a small circle of friends who all attend an Art university. Things start off pretty simple, but soon complicate themselves because of that age old thing called ‘love’.
A new service will hit the DS by which movie’s and lots of other content can be downloaded to the Nintendo DS! The technology and system will be known as DSvision. Naughty folk on the homebrew and flash card scene have been putting movies, music and downloaded DS games on their DS’s for years - but at least now there is a legal option.
DSvision will be made available really soon and the DSvision pack will come with a microSD card, as DS cartridge adapter and a USB adapter. When the service launches, users will be able to setup an account and purchase content from the site which can then be transferred to the DS. It’s looking like this is a Japan only thing. But given the DS is region free I’d assume you could just import ya DSvision and go nuts. And if DSvision takes Visa and you own a Visa card, you’re good to go!!
I think it’s great the DS is being made to showcase it’s greater potential. The gaming scene on the DS is pretty much safe sailing and Nintendo and third parties have that scene completely covered - so why not push more life out of the DS by allowing movies to be played off of it! If this really takes off and Nintendo play up the Wi-Fi capabilities and also work in some DS to Wii connectivity, they could really put some extra pressure on Sony’s PSP and give folk yet more reasons to go and buy themselves a DS lite.
DSvision was announced back in November and I only heard about it today?! Damn. I guess I need to show my DS more love. It has been sat in a drawer with a dead battery and near un-played copy of Phantom hourglass since last November.

There’s a new, crazy alternative fashion trend in Japan. As if Ganguro, Yamanba and Harajuku weren’t extreme enough, we now have Kegadoru. This looks has girls roaming the streets looking like battle damaged Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion. This look is to attract men (probably wife beaters) and give off the sense of vunerability and needing to be cared for.
“When you’re covered in bandages, everybody pays attention to you and worries about you. They also provide a chance to start talking to guys, who’ll ask you how you hurt yourself, so the bandages are really, really good. One guy told me that the reason he likes it is because he loves the idea of seeing a thin woman’s body wrapped in bandages because it looked kind of like bondage and made him want to protect her from harm”.
But wait! It gets more crazy. The colour of the bandages the girl is sporting have different meanings. White bandages symbolize purity and virginity, and black bandages symbolizes kinkiness. I’m not buying the deal with the white bandages, because there’s no way anybody could tell me none of the girls shown in the picture above hasn’t felt a dick before. I give full credit to Rei Ayanami for starting this trend. She was doing eye patches and bandages way before these other bitches.

We now have a Wii Friend code topic in our Dark Diamond forums!! If you haven’t registered as a user for out forums yet, then hurry up and get to it! *shakes fist* It’s quicker to register to our forums than it is to actually type your own Friend code.
If we get a nice bit of forum activity we will arrange Wi-Fi matches and the like. But this depends on you and can only be done if you register in the Dark Diamond forums and share your Friend codes. So chop chop! Get to it.
I want in: Be a part of the Dark Diamond community
I wanna make me some friends: Share your Friend code
Namco have revealed the new(ish) looks and character models for Soul Calibur veterans Seong Mi-Na, Maxi and Yun-Seong.
Seong Mi-Na is asking for a wardrobe malfunction in that outfit, Yun-Seong has me jealous of his 6-pack and if Maxi is made to look anymore like Elvis Namco are going to have to pay the Presley estate some royalties.
Check out high quality images of how the trio look in game below…
