A clever, perhaps too clever, video game mash-up with many of Nintendo’s greatest 8 and 16-bit era icons in the Kung-Fu universe. Damn that game was awesome, watch out for the plot twist!

Poor Mega Man, he never was good with the ladies. What with blowing his load all over the place, buster load that is.

Have you ever wondered what Super Mario galaxy would look like on the SNES? Nope, me neither. But spiderfalcox obviously has and as a result has recreated a Super Mario galaxy trailer, given it the 16 bit treatment and it looks awesome! This is proof that anything that features Mario is guaranteed hotness. (NOTE TO READERS: In the delusional world in which J lives, Mario is missing and the Super Mario film featuring Bob Hoskins does not exist).

Even if Nintendo had shown this 16 bit version of Super Mario galaxy at e3 I’d still piss myself over it. It looks a lot more fun and more interesting than New Super Mario bros. A game which (and it pains me to say this) I found a wee bit boring.

Oh! And in case some of you are wondering “What the f**k!? None of that looks even remotely like what was shown at e3 this year!?” It’s because it’s based on the Super Mario galaxy trailer that was shown at this year’s GDC. You can view the said trailer here.

Hey there, gang. Got back from one of the biggest comic conventions in the world, which is showing no signs of slowing down. There were announcements ( new Futurama episodes, Lost and Heroes games done by Ubisoft) , there were exclusives (the awesome Iron Man trailer and just-as-awesome Superman/Doomsday premiere on Thursday), there were enjoyable panels (Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, and Scott Kurtz being my personal faves) but most importantly,

… there were fans. Because everyone loves a bit of cheesecake or two, and what better way to celebrate one of North America’s most celebrated event with pictures of folks of all shapes and sizes (preferably hourglass-shaped and petite-sized) dressing up as their favorite heroes, heroines, and villains. More of this tomfoolery after the jump.

You gotta give it to Nintendo on this one. If it weren’t for their severe fixation in introducing peripherals for the sake of innovation, we’d still be sticking with the normal D-pad, no cart wheels, no guns, no nothing.

Take this game, Lethal Enforcers, made by Konami in 1993, a FPS from the 1st generation of Arcade FPS, you know. . . 2D backgrounds with animated sprites shooting at you, instead of the now-standard 3d scenarios and characters like in Virtua Cop. Not only did Lethal Enforcers challenged the power of the SNES, but we players could experience the game like the arcade, with both guns bundled with the package (They named them the Konami Justifiers. . .).

puppykik wrings us this vintage video of a real Lethal Enforcers machine and real non-emulated gameplay. Pure awesome!

This guy really looks like a police officer from the 80’s going undercover, combine it with the music from the game and Bam! you get some sort of inbred Miami Vice.

Final Fantasy - Ring of fates

The DS is playing host to a better and wider range of RPG than current gen consoles at the moment isn’t it?! The next game in the Crystal chronicles series will be the DS outing Ring of fates. This game promises to be much more plot driven, have a stronger narrative and be less repetitive than it’s GameCube predecessor.

The original Crystal chronicles shouldn’t have been released on the GameCube in the first place. What Square Enix were trying to achieve with that game was always going to be better suited to a system such as the DS. I’m sure some gamers out there had 3 friends who each had a GameBoy Advance and a link cable, but I sure as hell didn’t.

Still. Better late than never. Check out the link below to watch an extensive video of the game in action. It looks hawt!

Witness the sexiness: Final Fantasy Crystal chronicles: Ring of fates

Ring of fates is released in Japan on August 23 and will release in the US sometime in 2008. Which means it probably won’t see the light of day across Europe until 2010. 2009 if European gamers are lucky. We all know that Japanese developers are in no rush to get games out to Europe. *rolls eyes and then frowns*

The rabbit-and-dog-freelance-police duo are set to star in yet another large episodic-filled adventure, dubbed Sam And Max Season 2. So far, the only details we have is just the picture above, and a few excerpts from the press release:-

“Season One was a great success, but it’s just a starting point for us,” says Telltale’s CEO Dan Connors. “The episodic model presents so many opportunities to innovate and engage the audience in brand new ways. Just wait until you see what Telltale and GameTap have in store with Season Two.”

“GameTap and Telltale successfully proved the idea that games can work in a TV show format,” said Ricardo Sanchez, vice president of content and creative director for GameTap. “The Sam & Max episodes continue to be among the top titles played at GameTap and we expect that Season Two will be an even bigger draw.”

The first episode will be available via GameTap, but instead of waiting 15 days for it to be purchased on Telltale (like the last season), now it’s just one day. As a gamer who got into the adventure-game mould a decade ago, back when LucasArt and Sierra were the kings of the genre, I am pretty reassured that Telltale Games are continuing with the revered franchise. Hope their next move would be to bring this comedy gold over to the DS.

So the world finally gets to see Metal Gear Solid 4 in action! Yaaaaay! The game looks brilliant. It doesn’t have me itching to get a PlayStation 3, but I’m a lot more interested in this game than I was initially. From the gameplay footage the game appears to sport the less enclosed areas of MGS3, along with the feel of a Tom Clancy Advanced warfighter game. But undoubtedly we’ll get the usual bunkers and facilities that pop up in every Metal Gear game. Enough of me talking. Check out the awesome video.

This gameplay footage definitely puts Snake’s sexuality in question doesn’t it. It now seems he has a desire for holding onto the penis’s of a male statues, taking soldiers from behind and then grinding over their unconscious bodies, dry humping the floor and fondling other men’s balls at gun point. I guess we should’ve known from the start. His code name along with the title of Snake’s last adventure says it all really: Solid Snake, Snake eater. *slaps forehead* D’uh!!

Everybody will be able to get their mitts on Snake and his dirty old hands at some point next year. At this time it’s still unknown whether this game will appear on the Xbox 360 - but I think we will definitely see it ported to Microsoft’s system by the end of 2008. Probably in the form of Metal Gear Solid 4 Supersubsistence X or something like that.

Just when you thought his move to EA wasn’t enough, industry news hub GameDaily BIZ has an exclusive final Xbox Interview with the “then Xbox Exec” Peter Moore (click here for link), just on the final day of E3. Some highlights:-

BIZ: It’s a bit ironic, because when MS first got into the console business, critics laughed because MS is a software company at its core. It’s not in the business of creating hardware. Now the company has discovered some faulty design in its 360 hardware, seemingly proving the critics right. What do you say to those critics?

PM: Those critics need to do their homework and look at some of the hardware product failures that this industry has seen in the past 30 years that maybe have not got as much publicity…

Might be lengthy for some, but a good read. On another note, it’s Microsoft’s big lost: Peter Moore actually made the gaming division of Microsoft likeable with his energy and tattoo-displaying enthusiasm.

Smash bros. dojo

Keeping true to his word, Smash Bros. director Mashahiro Sakurai has been updating the official Smash Bros. website every weekday with information on the forthcoming game. Some interesting, some crap. But none the less I personally think it’s cool that new tidbits of info are leaked daily. I love how this game looks to be coming along and I’m such a Smash bros. fan that I’ll gladly eat up any scraps the developer wants to throw me. So if you haven’t been checking the Dojo daily, here’s a little re-cap on some of the recent reveals.

Brand new Tales of Innocence trailer

Oops, sorry for my absence these last 2 weeks, but here I am again preparing something nice for this Monday. Retro Video Time! It came to me as a surprise that off all the Retro Videos I’ve made, Joe & Mac gets featured until now; well, there have been a lot of great games through time, but Joe & Mac is the granddaddy of Arcade Adventure games, yessir! There wasn’t a trip to the arcade where i wouldn’t play some Joe and Mac (some other places called it Caveman Ninja. . .go figure) and suddenly another kid shows up and we team up beating the crap outta raging dinosaurs.

Now, Joe & Mac had a very underrated sequel on the SNES called Joe & Mac: Lost in the Tropics, and I gotta tell you that the graphics, music, and difficulty for this game are simply awesome! The vivid parts have that classic trumpet sound, like if it were some kind of Caribbean Party, and the calm parts those tribal drums, very. . .you know, caveman-ly.

One thing I really liked about Joe and Mac is that they discarded the classic Idea of having a RED player. Remember? Mario, Knuckles, Yo-Noid (ugh!), and Ken come to mind. In this game Joe (1P) is GREEN and Mac (2P) is BLUE; besides it combines really well with the background, you now, water and grass were the ONLY things in the Caveman Ninja era.

Since it’s that underrated, few videos of it appear on the internet, so we have to manage this time with a short video by Miserere01 of the first boss of the game.

Ah, the memories. If you can get to play this game, please do so, you just gotta love that song when you get on top of a dino-sidekick.

Basara X cross

Sometime ago Capcom put up a website which had nowt but flames and the words “New 2D beat ‘em up”. Many sat with baited breath in the vain hope they might get that sequel to Vampire saviour or the Street Fighter 4 game they’ve been waiting 8 years for. But instead, Capcom have hit us all with Sengoku Basra X cross.

Despite Capcom implying that their new 2D beat ‘em up would be a completely original IP, it actually isn’t at all. Sengoku Basara (known as Devil kings outside of Japan) is a series developed by Capcom. The first game released on the PS2 in 2004 and had a similar game setup to the likes of Ninety-nine nights, Dynasty warriors and Samurai warriors. (i.e slashing hoards of enemies in a Sengoku period setting).

Sengoku Basara X will be the series’ first foray into 2D beat ‘em up territory and in a surprise move the game is being co-developed by both Capcom and Arc system works - who are the team responsible for the Guilty Gear series. So that’s pretty much a guarantee we’ll get some sexy high res graphics and not re-hashed CPS-2 system sprites. :P

There are no trailers or screenshots of the game for us to gloat over, no release date and no word if this game will get a console release. But the game will be beta testing across Japan on July 25 and 26. So expect to see the game in action in the upcoming week!

Ah, the joys of Nintendo fandom. From custom barka lounges to chairs. Now this wonder. To quote Flickr poster “kaizokurisu” on this creation done both by him and his friend:

“We calculated what the internal volume of the enclosure was supposed to be for maximum performance and based on that made a box that had that volume but was also the size of 2 cubes side by side. Also the enclosure was built from scratch, but the Woofer is actually a 12″ Shiva for those wondering. And yes, the sub sounds amazing in my car!”

Any chance these would be for sale? You’ve got a buyer right here.
