Starcraft Ghost, the oh so hyped Starcraft game, the game I once saw in a booth two years ago at and though “oh wow that looks complete”, was “postponed” early last year. Blizzard wanted to evaluate the potential of next-gen consoles. Hey, maybe that was going to be a good thing, a better game. A year and a half later we finally get word that Blizzard still has the game in mind, as Blizzard’s Rob Pardo said:
“With that game we were very stubborn. I still believe in that game and the characters but we were not able to execute at the level we wanted to…Rather than work on that we had to focus on our other games. We’re hoping one day to return to it.”
Then again, this doesn’t mean much, if the game concept were to be resurrected it would have to be a whole new project, starting from scratch. Much like Duke Nukem Forever, and we all know how that’s going.

Big films and expensive stunts, they go hand in hand, specially in Japan. For the opening of the new Transformers movie Franz Harary, a famous magician, is going to transform the Tokyo Big Sight convention center into a giant robot.
Now thats one fucking bold statement if I’ve ever heard one. The Tokyo Big Sight is also famous among otaku for hosting Comiket, Japan’s biggest otaku convention. This is like a magician turning Rome into a giant crucifix, it could only be better if he turned Tokyo Big Sight into a giant loli.

Hey, hey, hey! Missed me, fellow DDN-reading people? I’m back again with another one of my anime reviews. Some of you may concur, some others will lift their clenched fists in disapproval, but nevertheless we’ll get to remember (or meet) great, awful, bizarre, and even moe anime from great Japan.
This time, one OVA of one of the best RPG sagas out there, makes its DDN debut: Tales of Phantasia. Still, even though the games are great, sometimes franchise expansion goes somewhat unplanned. . .

Panasonic recently released a promo for GLOBALRANGE, their new line of IP phones, produced by Gonzo (Hellsing, Gankutsuou, Trinity Blood). You can watch it in english on Panasonic’s GLOBALRANGE website. Its filled with so much feel good that you will either be crying or laughing at the cliches. Im serious, it contains a baby having his first steps, a father-son bonding moment, grandparents hearing their grandchild for the first time, and even a man oogling babes in Brazil. Its like GLOBALRANGE fixes all of your life’s problems! Very subtle, Gonzo, very subtle. From vampires and gothic neo-victorian kickass stories to selling phones to good ol’ mom and pop.
Go watch it now, if you dont suddenly get an epiphany about IP phones, then at least you are guaranteed a good laugh.

Oh this is really an awesome game, in fact all Looney Tunes games of the 2D era were wicked awesome! Buster Busts Loose is the name and, as it says, buster is out to do a lot of crazy stuff. . . just because! Developed and published by Konami, it was released n Japan in 1992 and in the USA in 1993; there are six fun-filled worlds where Buster Bunny will dash, jump, somersault and be Luke Skywalker in order to finish his adventure. The genre is platformer and, being a game made from a TV animated series, you’ll find the soundtrack similar to the show’s.
Here, RavenoftheBlack impresses us with an excellent gameplay in level 4: The Football Game, where Buster acts as a quarterback and you have to make a touchdown to beat the level.
Ah, what awesome memories these are. . .when games were made challenging and sprites made almost the impossible to surprise us.

Year Released: 1997
Platform: Sega Saturn (1997 version), Sony Playstation (1999 version)

Behold, dear readers, a console RPG where the developers placed well thought-out stories and characters over “L33T” 3D cutscenes and blond spiky-haired punks with an inferiority complex. Main story after the jump.

A Look Back @ Grandia
Oh Japan, when will you accept you are but a pawn of the Sanrio corporation? This is the latest in the neverending list of Hello Kitty products, a Nec LaVie Laptop sporting The Mouthless One covered by really expensive Swarovski crystals. This little baby will set you back ¥199,500, or roughly $1600 USD, perfect for that geek girl in your life, you know, the kind that stays up until 3 a.m. coding or searching for that one rare doujinshi. Which that girl in the picture seems to do, she could use some sleep.

Released by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, who also released the recent Top 50 Manga of Japan, and very much like last year’s poll of top 100 anime of 2006, is a list of the top 100 anime in Japan. To much delight over those who complained of 2006 top list (although conducted by a different entity) this list has both series and movies. See how your favorite’s fair, just dont expect the newer series to beat the timeless classics.
The top 10:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
- Laputa: Castle in the Sky
- Mobile Suit Gundam
- Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro
- Mushi-shi
- Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Fullmetal Alchemist
- Ghost in the shell

The japanese website for Suda51 upcoming Wii game, No More Heroes, just opened up after a rather cliched countdown. The hype that everything about the game would be revealed fell flat on its face as the website only shows two active sections, one explaining the story in less text than this post has. The other listing the staff. It does seem like it will contain a lot more in the near future, plus its filled with nice No More Heroes art, including shady characters you might not have seen before, worth checking out, even if you don’t know japanese.

So who knew this game even existed? I didnt, thats for sure! Manga Fighter is a game which features “manga characters” in a free for all third person shooter. Now the manga part is really a vague statement, the game has such western feel to it that a couple of anime-eyed characters really wont cut it. The stages look like something that came out of those first Lego 3D games, which while it worked for Lego, it doesnt so much for Manga Fighter.
Still, it just might be really fun and if you want to give it a try you are in luck since their first closed beta just ended and the next one begins sometime this month. A bear with a rocket launcher is never a bad thing, bad manga style aside.
The good folks over at overtime comedy have made a list of The 5 Most Infamous Video Game Doctors Ever, where, you guessed right, list some of the baddest doctors in the industry. This includes of course my personal favorite, Dr. Wily at #2. What can you say about a Doctor that not only managed to create a bunch of badass robots over the years, but also give the kickass stage music that became part of the legacy of classic game music! Go check out the rest of the list before someone calls malpractice.
P.S.: Tuesday-tans takes a second week off as we are preparing to release awesome into the tubes, check back soon.

At his 56 years of age, Sony’s ex-chairman and group chief executive Ken Kutaragi will hand the bar to the next runner in this everlasting race of doing the best video gaming console. Sony will now be headed by Kazuo Hirai (former president of Sony Computer Entertainment) and boy, does he have some weight on his shoulders!
Although Kutaragi will still be holding an advisory post at the gaming unit, we can only hope Sony takes a better path towards success. . .$599.99!

And its not Duke Nukem Forever. (like that was much a surprise to most of you) But, on 6/18/2007 3DRelams announced the title of a new game, “Earth No More”. It is slated for a 2009 release for the PC, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3. But I wouldn’t hold your breath. We all know their track record as far as releasing games is concerned. From what little information that has been released, it seems to be a first person shooter with a lean towards squad based combat in a presumably post apocalyptic setting. Expect more information from the July issue of July 2007 issue of Game Informer Magazine.

Running among some old SNES games I stumbled upon one that I had rented a lot back when VHS rentals were the shit and you could leave your window open without fear of some sinister man trying to invade and steal your privacy. Skyblazer was developed by studio Ukiyotei and released by Sony Imagesoft in 1994; with Super Mario World being a worldwide success as an Adventure-Platformer, these guys decided to give it a try, and they did it damn too well, in my opinion.
Story is nothing out of the ordinary,The Skyblazer hero (the guy you use) is searching for Ashura, the Lord of War, who had kidnapped the sorceress Ariana. Throughout the game you will be aided by an old man who’ll give you advice/passwords, and you will be able to gain spells throughout the game, with which you’ll be able to defeat Ashura.
This video by ShiryuGL shows the first “dungeon” of the game, Temple Infernus.
This game is what made the SNES such an awesome console; it had non-predictable games, even if they were of the same genre, like side-scrolling, or fighting. Skyblazer was a game in which, with just playing the first 10 minutes, you get bewitched by its awesome music, controls and graphics. A very good game.
