transformers.gifSo the Transformers movie trailer was released today, a lot of good that fancy countdown did! This trailer is perhaps the most useless and uninformative trailer EVER! At about a minute in length we get to see exactly one shadow of one thing that appears to be a robot. And the only robot we get to see can only collect rocks, STUNNING!

The movie premiers July 4 and it better be good or we’re personally going to do a whole bunch of nothin’ about it! Oh and there’s also a videogame from the movie coming out sometime between now and the release of Duke Nukem Forever.

ps3.jpgTalk of the PS3 being too complex to program for has been common for months now, but this time its manufacturing the PS3 thats getting the bad rap. Digital Battle reports that P.J. McNealy, Tech analyst for American Technology Research, said at MI6 the complexity of the PS3 might make production too slow to meet Sony’s goal of 2 million consoles at launch.

“This is now the most complex box that’s ever been built in this industry. It’s going to have a Cell processor, it’s going to have a Blu-ray drive. The number of pieces that are going into this box are even more astounding [than the over 1700 parts used in the Xbox 360].”

Well, its not like its a videogame console after, right Kutagari? Making a time-traveling-giant-crab-battling-crime-solving super computer takes its toll. McNealy also said that the Nintendo Wii will be much more easier to manufacture since its design its fairly simple.

clash of the geekus01.jpg

Welcome to the first edition of Clash of the Geekus, a weekly column in which 2 or more of our Editors sit down to discuss a hot topic of the week. Today we have Nahu and Velcor as our host editors. Enjoy!

This week we have seen a lot of talk about Pink. Reports of people preferring the pink DS Phat over the new & sleek DS lite boggle the mind. Later this same week we found out Nintendo is planning on releasing a pink DS lite. So it seems pink is quite an important color nowadays. The question for today is: Do you think a pink Wii should be available at launch?

RS_Blog1_Inline1.jpgRemember that whole Red Steel getting reworked mess we had last week? Then you’d remember we joyously said that Ubisoft listened to the fans. Well apparently they not only like to listen, they want to talk back.

The Red Steel crew at Ubisoft Paris Studio opened up a blog on IGN today. The blog will feature small updates and sneak peaks of information about the Nintendo Wii title. Marie-Sol Beaudry, producer of Red Steel made the first post, where she gave some insight into the developing process.

clamp.jpgOf all of the different classes of freak peculiar minds Japan manages to spawn CLAMP occupies a special place in the mentally deviated zone. Just look at them all smiling like some promo shot for desperate housewives. They’ve brought us great titles like X, Sakura Card Captor, Chobits, Magic Knight Rayeheart, all with their characteristic amount of sexual blur.

Now Anime News Network has posted a video interview that Japan’s Top Runner show did to CLAMP. Although its in Japanese the video is very insightful and might provide some much needed answers to the group’s success.

tsuyoshi_tux.jpgWe never thought this series could make it to America, but Densha Otoko is flying toward this Western Continent (On top of his Anime-powered Flying Train, obviously.)! The famous “Train Man” (As the translated name will most probably be) will debut this October in New York, and will shortly appear on DVD for you to gather all the episodes, extras, and geekness possible, straight from Japan, and subbed (hopefully) by USA.

jmusic.JPGTOKYOPOP recently announced a partnership with DRA to create TOKYOPOP Music. This unholy label has already spawn three anime based albums that cover music from series like Initial D, GTO, Rave Master, Princess AI, Street Fury and various others. Most are the American versions of the soundtracks but TOKYOPOP’s mission goes further.

We have plans to release more than 20 albums per year featuring the coolest music from Asia and we feel that DRA’s excellent technology platform, worldwide reach and marketing expertise will serve TOKYOPOP Music very well.

pink.jpegApparently Nintendo had been hinting at a new DS lite color arriving to the Japanese market soon. Remember yesterdays post about the less-than-awesome sales of the DS lite in the UK? Now put your thinking caps on and try and guess whats coming? Thats right, a pink DS lite is coming to japan! I knew you were smart.

The fabulously pink DS lite will hit the Japanese market on July 20th for the same price as a normal DS lite, no combos have been announced so far. I would have slapped that baby next to Super Princess Peach like bread and jelly! America seems to have fallen from Nintendo’s grace as only the Polar white DS lite is available there. Over the pond the UK already has black DS lite and white DS lite. Nintendo claims its because of ‘demand problems’ that this has happened.

Want your grandma to buy you a Wii this next holiday season? We sure do! But what if old granny cant pick apart an ipod from a calculator? Well the wire has come up with a guide to pre-ordering the Wii covering all of the basics in the simplest way possible.

Really quickly, what’s a Wii?

(Pronounced “Wee” not “Why”) For family and friends not familiar with video games, the Wii (pronounced ‘we’) is Nintendo’s next big system coming…

It doesn’t get much more basic than this folks. So head up to The Wiire so you can teach grandma what those thingamajigs are, and why you desperately MUST have one.

civ4.jpgMac gamers can add another mark to their tally. Sid Meier’s Civilization IV has come to the Mac. The downside? The system requirements for CIv IV on the Mac are about twice of what the Windows version needs. Users could simply run BootCamp and play it with windows on their Macs. Apple needs to rethink its approach to gaming now that users have more choices.

DS_Lite_Closed.jpgThe DS lite has sold 35,000 units on its first UK weekend in retail, while this is no small feat its only about 40 per cent of what the original DS sold. Troubles ahead for little slim? Not really. You see, the Lite was launched amids a good run for the UK in the World Cup and without an spectacular marketing campaign to back it up. The Brits were not given a chance to care.

A curious thing also happened that weekend, DS Phat sales stayed the same. What oh what could the DS Phat have thats so appealing to the UK? Pink. The female population have been buying these like hot bread.

When it comes to dance games I’ve always been on the DDR side, Pump It Up’s song library just doesn’t cut it. But arcade tastes aside, when you see talent like this guy you gotta respect it.Ive seen some free-stylers before but this guy takes the cake… and eats it while doing a back-flip. He goes by the name Smidget, we are not worthy of Smidget.

steam_centipede_icon.jpgRepent! The day our mechanical overlord rises to power is nigh! I-Wei Huang, who was recently featured in a Make Video Podcast, builds steam robots for fun. His job is fantastic, I never thought those little steam powered trains could be so badass.

Watching his website I came across the most frightening awesome steam powered chibi overlord. A future of darkness, slavery and battles in the thunderdome never looked so cute. Dames and Geeks, I present to you, The Steam Robot Spider.

wii.jpgOh yes, it has! When opened a million nano-robots come out to form a giant cannon that shoots cosmic rays into your eyes, TEH MEGATON! Well not really, in all seriousness the flap opens to reveal the SD card slots. Or so said Reggie Fils-Aime. Reggie also went on to hint that it wasn’t the only medium of storage but that so far it was all they where willing to announce.

Well after this there is really little place for Nintendo to hide ‘the last secret’, even the latest camera rumors are starting to crumble down. Hope lives on in the heart of the fanboy.

beer.jpgAh, how we missed blogger rumors and uncanny stories, it good they’re back. We were getting bored. This time a French blogger reports he met a Nintendo excecutive at an airport bar, they got to talking, the exec got to drinking and the blogger got to taking note. In a drunken haze the executive revealed the launch date for the Wii to be this October, on the 30th to be precise. An American/European launch would follow a short week after.

Although we had previously heard many rumors about a November launch this is the closest to an exact date we’ve got. And it makes a lot of sense, its before the ps3 launch, and gives it enough time to gain momentum leading to the holidays.
